A-Rod homers, doubles in first rehab game

Alex Rodriguez finished tonight 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and a strikeout, driving in two runs for the Class-A Tampa Yankees against the Dunedin Blue Jays in Dunedin, Fla.

A-Rod tipped his cap to the fans after homering on his first swing of the rehab assignment, coming on a 3-1 pitch from left-hander Willie Collazo. He also ripped the line drive double to right field off Collazo in the third inning, coming on a 1-2 pitch, before striking out looking in the fifth against lefty Matt Wright.

The plan is for A-Rod to play five or six innings in the field at Dunedin on Saturday, and perhaps play in an intra-squad game on Sunday in Tampa. He’ll take Monday off and then join the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees for games on Tuesday and Wednesday.
