Hey folks, Matt Fortuna here for the finale of the Yankees’ three-game series with the Rangers, as 32-year-old Brian Gordon will make his first career start after being signed from Triple-A Lehigh Valley of the Phillies’ organization. Way to go Gardy. He came through in the 12th but Granderson had to get on to get in. Great sweep of a good team. Hope the Yankees can keep it going even minus Jeter. They’re going to have to do without him anyway after this year or the next. Looks like Gordon might be a good pick up until Hughes gets healthy. Hope Chavez gets back soon. Go Yankees.

I kind of agree with your Jones comment, he has a few good games at the plate…I check trenton and scranton stats all the time and I don’t see anybody on either squad, as far as stats go. Jones is pretty solid defensively, you’ve just gotten use to Gardner…lol…we take him for granted…How Girardi takes gardner out is beyond me, .286 and hottest hitter in the AL since May 1st, I know he was bad in April, but speed defense, solid and very accurate arm steals bases. forces pitchers to throw fastballs to our hitters due to the threat of steal, hitting.286, one of our best hitters with runners in scoring position…Put him lead off and leave him there….this left/right thing with Girardi drives me crazy…I thought grandy had let us down in the 9th but he got a chance to redeem and score the winning run….I love Gardy and Grandy…nice players!!!…..

Maxwell was having a nice year at SWB and may have been an option, but shoulder labrum surgery ended his season!

You stated try to do without him, the .176 with risp or the .326 OBP or lack of steals…or what has he done “this year” that we will “have to try to do without him”????….235 ave after the 1st inning???….Let Nunez and Pena play they will be fine, solid fielders and they are fast and as we’ve seen they can also hit some….not automatic outs…not so far anyway….not replacing much as Jeter hasn’t done much….I love DJ though, hope the rest helps him get untracked and he comes back hot…we need him!!!

Jeter signed for three years and a fourth year option so the earliest he leaves is after 2013.

Andruw Jones is useless, weak defensively and terrible at the plate. He strikes out constantly. They’ve got to sign another outfielder who can produce better than Jones. There must be someone in the farm system that can contribute more than Jones is. He was not a good pick up in the off season. Too many strike outs today and too many double plays. With screwing around with the lineup since Jeter went down it brings in Pena and Nunez and these guys are really not ready as starters in the big league. Not pitching today the problem but hitting. They shot their bolt in the first two games of the series.

Wow, that’s contorted! Jones is solid defensively! You must be used to seeing Gardner run stuff down.

Nunez is a nice player would start on most teams….lots of teams ask for him in trades….Jones is not weak defensively. I don’t like his offense but he has like 10 gold gloves…

Cervelli has to go!!!…Gardner has a higher batting average than Jeter, higher obp, better def player by far, more sb’s….no i think your focus needs to be somewhere else on this team….want to talk about DJ ave with runners in scoring position, how about hits after the 7th inn….oops…sorry and i love DJ, just a great Yankee…but come on look around and watch the games….sheesh…..Flores…?? better or sworse than Logan?…hmm…close huh?…I think so, Logan has only had one good year also and you don’t worry about youth in the bullpen…we have noesi and I agree with Betances, but I want Flores. we need another lefty real bad…Vasquez is a first baseman…lets see who is playing 1b tonight and is a dh…oh yeah…Posada….oops….so vasquez would be worse than Posada and couldn’t play a little first and he played 3rd in spring training?…Don’t understand the reasoning here….Burnett has not just pitched 1 good game….you better look back and check it out…has he had some clunkers, yes he has… but when hes good you only need a few runs…its the offense thats killed him this year….hes not an ace but he is a decent pitcher….I will come back and post some of the games he pitched this year….gentlemen stick with the facts and have some stats to back up your assessments not just opinions!!!

Are you kidding? I mean seriously. Bustnett is not a bust? The Yanks signed him to a $82.5 million contract for 5 years to be a front end starter not to be a”decent starter” which he isn’t. Bustnett has never lived up to his contract or those expectations of being a front end end starter. Where were you when this team signed him? Ever since coming to the Yankees he has only been a .500 pitcher, 29-29 4.00+ ERA. who has done nothing but allow far too many HR’s and walk too many hitters. So how is he not a bust? This guy is NOT a front end starter but rather a back end starter and his stats prove it, that’s even if you bothered to look at his stats. LMAO!!!!! the second this guy puts a good outing together fans start to LOSE IT and have him lined up for the CY Young. PLEEEEEAAAAASSSSSEEEEE!!!! GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!! So what if he puts together a good outing. HE is doing nothing but following the same seasonal pitching pattern he has established since signing with the Yankees. He had 10 quality starts in which he went 6+ innings and gave up 3 runs or lessin the first half of the ’09 season but wound up with only a mediocre of 13 wins and a 4.00+ ERA. In ’10 he had of those starts but finished the season 10-15 with a 5.00+ ERA. IT’s not how you start the season, but how you finish it, and he has not been very good in the 2nd half of either of the two previous seasons. IF you even looked at his stats you would see the same thing that everyone else has seen. So how is he not a bust again?

You actually want Flores in the pen , a 35 yr old pitcher who is going on 36 and has his own injury history? You my friend have very low standards. Flores has only had one good season in his career despite having an 11-5 record, but his career ERA is a bloated 4.61. Do you even look at stats? Flores SUCKS as a lefty specialist. Hitters have raked him, rightieshave hit .306/.383/.46 against him in his career and lefties have hit .266/.337/.428 . OVerall, hitters have hit .285/.359/.442. Not so special for a lefty specialist. Flores will improve this pen? Yeah right. Exactly how with those numbers? Yeah Boone Logan is definitely better than Flores as he put together a solid season last year and is in the process of putting together another one this year. Where has Flores been all season? Oh yeah, where he belongs in the minors. The question shouldn’t be whether the Yanks have better options than him in the minors. Most likely they do based on those numbers, but whether Flores is a better option than them. Based on his career numbers it’s a definite NOT!!!! yo might want to look at a player’s stats before spouting off.

One other thing, if this team does call resort to the minors for a DH they will most likely go with Montero before they look at Vazquez. Montero is the top minor league talent in the system, so the organization will want to get a look at him plus he fills a desperate hole at both C and DH. I’m not saying that Vazquez won’t or shouldn’t get a call up but he he is less likely to get it at this point beside considering how weak the bench has been all season this team is more likely to go with a vet bat.

One last thing, you might want to take your own advise before you tell everyone else to stick with the facts. So far the facts/stats don’t come close to backing up anything you said in your post. Also, you might want to include logic with that before you post again.

Logan,
Vs left batters this year….they are hitting .300…so there goes that argument….I’m not saying Flores would be used instead of Logan…but in addition too…I can guarantee he will be up this year, he was a good pick up and adds depth, otherwise why bring him in….Its nice to have 2 lefties in the bullpen and they are needed even if its for a batter or two, even if to force the other manger into pulling a guy…. Flores has a lot major league experience….I agree with your Montero statements…..Rather have Flores, a veteran and his 31inn and 29 k’s so far this year in AAA and .232 ave against then Jeff Marquez…doesn’t make sense…give us a 2nd lefty…I disagree with ya…if not Flores than who..come up with somebody….I do respect your opinion, I like going back and forth with fellow Yankee fans……Burnette won again!!!
