Yankees add right-hander Cory Wade to roster
The Yankees announced before Wednesday’s game that they have signed right-hander Cory Wade to a Major League contract and added him to the Major League roster. Wade will wear No. 53 and be in uniform tonight.
Wade hasn’t pitched in the Majors since 2009, when he was with the Dodgers. He was released last week by the Rays, who had been notified that Wade planned to exercise an opt-out clause in his contract.
He made one appearance at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings. At Triple-A Durham in the Rays chain, Wade was 2-1 with a 1.23 ERA, allowing 34 hits walking six and striking out 34 in 36 2/3 innings.
In corresponding roster moves, the Yankees optioned right-hander Kevin Whelan to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and transferred right-hander Rafael Soriano to the 60-day disabled list.
