Mark Teixeira homered in the first inning off Pineda, but pregame, he had nothing but high praise for the Mariners phenom as well as the arm they’ll see plenty of on Saturday, Felix Hernandez.

“They talk about the best 1-2 punch in baseball and when you face those guys two days in a row, you’ve got to be ready,” Teixeira said.

Here’s the scouting report Joe Girardi offered on Pineda: “The thing about the young man is he throws a ton of strikes. He’s around 70 percent first pitch strikes, so you’ve got to be ready to hit.”
