How CC Sabathia spent 32 minutes tonight

If he’d cared to, CC Sabathia had enough time to take a break and watch a standard television sitcom – commercials included – tonight, as the Yankees slogged through a 32-minute half inning in which they scored six runs.

Sabathia wasn’t complaining, that was for sure, but he had to find some way to occupy his time until the bottom of the fifth inning was over.

“I’m just pretty much down in the cage,” Sabathia said. “I got a little extra heat put on my shoulder and elbow. I just make sure I keep a sweat, whether that’s throwing balls in the cage or hopping on the bike. Whatever you’ve got to do to keep sweating.”

Sabathia said that he has gotten used to the idea that a little unexpected break like this could pop up at any moment.

“Absolutely. It can happen anytime in the game, we can put up a six spot,” Sabathia said. “That’s always great for a pitcher, but you’ve got to be able to focus back in and stay locked in and keep making pitches.”
