Hughes placed on disabled list
Yankees right-hander Phil Hughes has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with arm fatigue.
“Something had to be done,” Hughes said. “The arm strength is not there. My arm feels dead. There’s nothing coming out. We have to get it right.”
The Yankees have called up Lance Pendleton from Triple-A. Joe Girardi said that Bartolo Colon will take Hughes’ spot in the rotation.
There was some thought given to demoting Hughes to the Minors, but they decided keeping him with the team would be the better plan.
“We decided it was in his best interest to get him on a long toss program and see if we can get him out of that fatigue or dead arm,” Girardi said.
More to come.
