Game 10: Yankees vs. Orioles

Hello from a damp Yankee Stadium, where it’s cool and misty but we expect to have baseball on time tonight as the Yankees and Orioles begin a rain-shortened two-game series.

The Yankees made a roster move before tonight’s game, recalling right-hander Hector Noesi from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace the injured right-hander Luis Ayala on the active roster. This is the first call to the big leagues for Noesi, 24, who was beaming in the clubhouse pre-game. He said his first call went to his mom, who was speechless when she heard the news.

Tonight’s first pitch is being thrown by Kemba Walker of the newly-crowned NCAA college basketball champion University of Connecticut Huskies. Members of the team were greeted on field tonight by Derek Jeter and Curtis Granderson.

Here are the lineups:

Brian Roberts 2B, Nick Markakis RF, Derrek Lee 1B, Vladimir Guerrero DH, Luke Scott LF, Adam Jones CF, Mark Reynolds 3B, Matt Wieters C, Robert Andino SS

Pitching: Chris Tillman RHP (0-0, 3.38 ERA)

Brett Gardner LF, Derek Jeter SS, Mark Teixeira 1B, Alex Rodriguez 3B, Robinson Cano 2B, Nick Swisher RF, Jorge Posada DH, Curtis Granderson CF, Russell Martin C

Girardi tried to milk AJ one inning too long. He was almost at 100 pitches after 6. That’s enough for AJ. Try to stretch him past 100 and into the 7th and you get the result you got. 2 home runs in one inning and a blow out late in the game turns into a too close one. Not good managing of your starters as far as I’m concerned. AJ did a good job through 6. Breathe a sigh of relief and get someone else in there. Girardi didn’t do that. Hopefully it won’t come back to bite him in this game.
