Cano, Jeter, Teixeira to receive Gold Gloves tonight
If you’re coming out to Yankee Stadium tonight to see the Yankees and Twins play the second game of this four-game series, two helpful pointers: definitely bring some sort of windbreaker or jacket, and also you might want plan on being somewhere to see the field by 6:50 p.m.
That’s when Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira will receive their 2010 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards in a ceremony at home plate.
On Wednesday, the gloves will be on display on the 200 Level in right field across from the New York Yankees Museum, from when gates open at 5 p.m. until the end of the seventh inning.
- Also, give a hearty Twitter welcome to Mark Teixeira. He’s @teixeiramark25. Russell Martin also recently joined: @russell_martin.
- Fun fact as we follow up from last night’s game: In Monday’s win vs. Minnesota, RHP Ivan Nova became the first Yankees rookie to win a start within a season’s first four games since 22-year-old Al Leiter defeated the Brewers, 4-1, in the fourth game of the 1988 season, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
- This will end today, since Andruw Jones is expected to start in left field, but the Yankees have played with the same starting defensive lineup and batting order in the first four games of the season for the first time since 1987 (1-9: Henderson-CF, Randolph-2B, Mattingly-1B, Ward-DH, Winfield-RF, Pasqua-LF, Pagliarulo-3B, Skinner-C, Tolleson-SS).
- One final Yankee Stadium note to pass along, from the Yanks’ PR staff: There are $5 tickets available for each game of the Yankees’ current series vs. Minnesota (in select areas of the Terrace Level,Grandstand Level or Bleachers, subject to availability)…tonight is insulated Can Cooler Night, presented by Pepsi Max to the first 18,000 guests.
