FRESH START: 1B Mark Teixeira has joined Dave Winfield (first three games of1983 at Seattle) as the only Yankees in franchise history to home in each of the firstthree team games of the season (credit: Elias Sports Bureau)…according tobaseball-reference.com only two players since 1919 have homered in each of theirclubs’ first four team games of a season (Mark McGwire w/ St. Louis in 1998 andWillie Mays w/ San Francisco in 1971)…marked the first time he has homered inthree straight games since 5/31-6/2/08 w/ Atlanta.With a three-run home run in each of the Yankees’ first two games of 2011, is thefirst player to hit a three-run home run (or grand slam) in each of his team’s firsttwo games of a season since Barry Bonds in 2002 according to STATS, LLC.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, is the first player in franchise history todrive in at least three runs in each of the Yankees’ first two games of a season.

EARLY RESULTS: Yankees batters have set a franchise record with 9HR through the first three games of theyear…according to the Elias Sports Bureau, surpassed the previous high of 8HR in 1932 and 1981…their 23Rthrough three games is their highest such total since 2003 (27R)…had their first multi-homer inning thisseason in Sunday’s loss to the Tigers (third inning – Teixeira and Cano).Through the first three games of the season, six different Yankees have homered (Cano, Granderson, Martin,Posada, Rodriguez and Teixeira).

DESIGNATED DRIVER: C Jorge Posada recorded his first career multi-HR game as a designated hitter in Sunday’sloss vs. Detroit…was his 17th career multi-home run game (all 2HR games), and first since 9/1/09 atBaltimore…marked his first multi-homer game at home since 9/4/07 vs. Seattle at the original Yankee Stadium.

Gardiner fails to get guys home who are on 3rd and 2nd. He did that too often in 2010 and it’s repeating itself this year. I don’t have confidence in him batting when there are men on base and there are 2 outs.
