An early end to Dickerson’s first day as a Yankee
But the newcomer pulled up with what the team is calling cramping and spasms in his left hamstring while running the bases, and now he’ll have at least a day in the training room to show for it.
Dickerson has already been scratched from Sunday’s trip to play the Twins in Fort Myers, and trainer Gene Monahan has sent word that he’ll be re-examining Dickerson in the morning. Yankees manager Joe Girardi indicated that Dickerson might have been feeling something earlier in the day but didn’t say anything, wanting to make a good first impression.
“We think it’s cramps, but obviously we’re not going to know until tomorrow,” Girardi said. “He was actually cramping up this morning a little bit and did not inform anyone.”
- Russell Martin will sit out tomorrow and catch on Monday. He’s feeling stiffness in his left hamstring, which is why Gustavo Molina pulled double duty and caught CC Sabathia’s Minor League game before appearing against the Pirates.
- Brian Cashman says he must add Eric Chavez to the roster by Monday if he requests to know his fate by Sunday. It’s just a formality at this point, really. As Cashman said today, it’d be difficult to do much better than Chavez has. He’s on the team, assuming he doesn’t get hurt within the next couple of days.
