Winter Meetings ready to begin

The Winter Meetings are set to get underway here at the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Resort on Monday morning, as the baseball universe converges for three-plus days and nights under the same roof.

This is where the deals can get done, with the rumors flying fast and furious around the huge Christmas tree in the hotel lobby. Some have substance, others are just sizzle. But last year’s Winter Meetings saw the Yankees bring home Curtis Granderson and Andy Pettitte, and this year Cliff Lee is the name to know.
We’re pretty much assured of at least two Yankees announcements here this week, but you already know about those. The Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera contracts are done, so all there is left to do is print out the press release and have the players made available to talk about it.
You wonder if Jeter might pop up in person, considering the relatively short trip from Tampa. Then again, Jeter is reportedly in New York — the captain underwent his physical today, according to the New York Post
In any event, Brian Cashman should be here later tonight, having completed his services as a Yankees elf scaling that building in Connecticut. will have all of the Hot Stove buzz as it happens, and don’t forget to check for newsy tidbits on my Twitter feed

Cashman should be signing quality players instead of pretending to be Batman?s side-kick. A-Gon to ******* & we?re still waiting for our diminishing SS.

I hope the Yankees can nab Cliff Lee, but don’t you think there will be some problems at home if he signs?
