Yankees to unveil Steinbrenner monument tonight

Thumbnail image for steinbrennermonpark.jpgThe Yankees will unveil a permanent monument honoring George M. Steinbrenner prior to tonight’s game against the Rays, as the late principal owner takes his place alongside the other legends in Yankee Stadium’s Monument Park.

The Yankees have asked all fans to arrive early and be in their seats by 6:45 p.m. ET. Monument Park will be closed to fans prior to Monday’s game.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at approximately 7 p.m. ET with a special introduction behind home plate, followed by the unveiling of the monument, to be located just beyond the center-field wall.
Steinbrenner’s granddaughter, Haley Swindal, who is currently performing in the musical Cabaret at the Surflight Theater in Beach Haven, N.J., will sing “God Bless America” during the seventh-inning stretch in tribute to her grandfather.
Frank Sinatra Jr. will sing the national anthem prior to the game, while the colors will be presented by the West Point Color Guard.
Steinbrenner’s wife, Joan, and all four of the couple’s children — Hal, Hank, Jennifer and Jessica — are scheduled to be in attendance.
The Yankees’ principal owner since 1973, Steinbrenner died on July 13 at the age of 80. Under the stewardship of “The Boss,” the Yankees won seven World Series championships.
Joe Torre and Don Mattingly will be among those on hand for the unveiling of a monument honoring late principal owner George Steinbrenner on Monday in the Bronx.

Tim McClelland is the WORSE umpire in the MLB. That strike zone all night was small and got smaller as the night went on.

GREAT job Kerry Wood.

Smart play by the manager BAD execution by Gardner. He needs to work on bunting in the offseason. And Jeter’s offering on the 3-1 count was equally BAD.

No wonder they don’t ask Gardner to bunt. What a lousy bunt and ends up hitting into a double play. Can’t even get the bunt on the ground. Bunting isn’t rocket science is it? He needs to spend a lot of time learning how to bunt. He’s been lousy at the plate tonight.

Anyone notice how Vasquez has disappeared????

Girardi I swear you blow this second 4 run lead and I will fly to NYC tonight and personally buy you that one way ticket to Chicago and your cubs job.

Can anyone explain Girardi’s sudden acination with Chad Gaudin. He is NOT a reliever. Why is Albaladejo with the club if he is not going to be used. He had a great year at Scranton.
The Yanks brought all these guys up, now use them right. Sunday was another game that was mismanaged.
If Boston is still in it as of Friday, this team is in trouble. I am so tired of the media talking about the great Yankees lineup. They just don’t produce enough runs when they have the opportunity to do so.

Told ya. Gaudin walks in the 4th run. Why would they bring Gaudin into a close game that they need to win? Can’t figure Girardi out. Bad decision again.

Yankees worst reliever in now, Chad Gaudin. There’ll be more runs before the inning is finished, just wait.

A comfortable 4-0 lead evaporates. The Yankees can’t hold onto a lead. Logan can’t get any of the lefties out. Bull pen woes back to haunt us again. Should have had this game but looks like momentum has gone to the Rays now. Outcome of game pretty predictable. Another Yankee loss to the Rays. and giving up first place.;

Why does Girardi always leave his pitchers in too long? Nova is a rookie. He can’t go more than 5 innings at the most. He’s proven that this year. Girardi left him in too long in his last start and the opposition scored 6 runs. Now he leaves him in too long and he gives up 2 runs. A 2 run lead is nothing against a hitting team like Tampa. Girardi has done this too many times this year and lost too many games because of it.

Can anyone tell me why Berkman was given the green light to swing on a 3-1 pitch with the bases loaded the way Garza has been throwing balls? Even if a strike he had a chance to swing on a 3-2 pitch and do something with it. Not a good piece of hitting or coaching by Berkman.

What a useless at bat Gardner is in clutch situations and with runners on base. He swings at bad pitches and has never learned to bunt successfully. He could greatly increase his on base percentage and utilize his speed if he learned how to bunt.
