Thanks Robert for the article “The Curious case of Derek Jeter”. It was informative and probably accurate as far as assessing what Jeter is doing or not doing this year that he has done in the past, that his problem is not mechanics so much as mental, however not sure if he’s swinging at too many pitches out of the strike zone if that’s only mental and not mechanical. I guess the big question if Jeter knows what his problem is, and Girardi knows what his problem is, and Jess Coleman and everyone else knows what Jeter’s problem is why can’t Jeter correct it or why can’t the coaches help him to correct it? Is Jeter too much of a icon to take advice? Is he too cocky to stop trying to be a hero and wait for a good pitch before he swings? Someone should be able to help this guy so that he can be more of an asset down the stretch and into the playoffs. He really isn’t contributing at the plate right now like he should be. One wonders what happens at the end of this year if he becomes a free agent. Do the Yankees sign him because he’s always been a Yankee? Do they platoon him? But even part time player or DH he still has to learn to hit better.

Okay … enough is enough! The team is not hitting with runners in scoring position, and with the exception of CC the starting rotation is poor at best. This may get minimally better if we get Andy back and hopefully it won’t be to late. Here is the real question … were AJ and Vasquez worth the investment? AND why did Cashman not do anything before the trading deadline to bolster the pitching? Foregot he went fo Kearns and Berckman.

Maybe a lot of the Yankees have early October tee times – in fact there are a number of them that ought to hit the links now and skip going to the ballpark.

Say goodbye to first place folks. Girardi is managing like he is settling for the wildcard. Injuries have caught up with this team. When you are not hitting you need to generate some offense Joe. He is managing like his heart and mind are elsewhere. When you go to the bullpen and have Mitre and Gaudin coming out you are in trouble. Then again who else reliable can he bring in, Joba or Robertson? Aceves has really been missed this year.

Just what I said. Mitre hasn’t been getting it done lately. Comes in and gives up a home run and Yankees lose the game. Now the Rays are a half game in the lead. If you can’t win a game behind CC then you’re in trouble. The offence has gone south lately and tonight was non existent. Sure Price is a good pitcher but once you get into the bull pen you should be able to get a run. Obviously the Rays did. This is no longer a joke friends and we’re running out of time and the fans are going to run out of patience. The Yankees are not playing like a winning team right now. 4 losses in a row. Girardi is going to have to right the ship and soon or it’s going to sink.

Mitre hasn’t been that reliable in relief lately. The longer we go in this game the more the advantage switches to the Rays I think. They’re in their own ball park and they have a strong pen. I fear the outcome of this game and this series. Tex was so hot there for a while. What’s happened to him? And ARod has done little since returning from his injury. And Thames was hitting home runs by the bucket full and now he’s doing nothing. They’ve obviously figured out how to pitch to Thames.

Jeter does it again. Man on second. 10th inning tie game and he can’t advance the runner or get him home. It’s happening way too much. Can’t management or the coaches figure out what the problem is and correct it or is his problem mental rather than mechanics? Whatever it is someone needs to figure out how to fix it quick.

Jeter is really losing it. He’s not the player he used to be, certainly not at the plate. He used to Mr. Clutch who drove in runs and who got on base, who hit to the opposite field. You could count on him. Not any more. His average is way down this year and he’s not hitting when it counts. he gets out on a regular basis, strikes out too much, hits into DPs too much. If he doesn’t get it together before the playoffs the Yankees are minus the sure bat they had in last year’s world series.

I’ve been in Pennsylvania the past week. Saw some of the three games against Texas. They went too late for me so rather shocked the next morning to find that they had blown the 3 games, 3 games they could have and should have won. Where’s the offence gone? Joba does his usual thing in the 8th inning. Mo blows a save. Moseley keeps them in the game until the 8th and then they end up losing it. Why did they pitch Moseley into the 8th? They should have gone to the bull pen earlier obviously. All I know is that they were swept by the Rangers. If I were the players and management I think I’d be really hanging my head at this point. Now only a half game up on the Rays and there’s no offence again tonight. Yankees are playing their B team again. Injuries are starting to catch up with them. Looks like they might only get the wild card and lose home field advantage. Right now this team seems in disarray. They’re not playing like winners.
