8/24 – Yankees at Blue Jays

The roof is open here at the Rogers Centre, and it’s a beautiful evening in Toronto as the Yankees and Blue Jays play the second game of a three-game series. The big pregame news is that Ivan Nova’s audition start last night has earned him one more turn through the rotation, which is going to bump Javier Vazquez to the bullpen. Vazquez was disappointed, but he understands he hasn’t pitched up to capability.

Here are tonight’s lineups:

YANKEES (77-48)
Derek Jeter SS, Nick Swisher RF, Mark Teixeira 1B, Robinson Cano 2B, Marcus Thames DH, Jorge Posada C, Austin Kearns LF, Curtis Granderson CF, Eduardo Nunez 3B
RHP Dustin Moseley (3-2, 4.76)

BLUE JAYS (65-59)
Travis Snider LF, Yunel Escobar SS, Jose Bautista RF, Vernon Wells CF, Adam Lind DH, Aaron Hill 2B, Lyle Overbay 1B, John Buck C, Edwin Encarnacion 3B
LHP Marc Rzepczynski (1-1, 4.76)

I see Vazquez getting a chance to re-join the rotation after resting his “dead” arm. Though Girardi denied it, Gameday and the YES bug showed a decline in velocity from 91 mph to 88 mph. For the playoff roster, someone will be cut allowing the addition of another speedster (likely Greg Golson) to terrorize the bases. Though he pitched well recently, Gaudin’s performance last night makes him my leading candidate!

oneof5, I’ve been following this blog all season and according to you everybody is useless. After a tough loss the boys have come out and spanked the ball around and there is no praise here……. Thames is 3-4, Garandy hit a dinger off a lefty, Jorge hit a dinger after Thames etc., etc., ect. Try saying something positive!!!!!!

Do not put Gaudin in the game unless the YANKEES have a 20 run lead. The guy is useless. He’s a liability. And why Girardi keeps putting him in is beyond me. What was a blowout now becomes a tighter game and it’s totally unecessary. Bad decision. Gaudin was a real bad pick up. Should be traded or shipped to the minors. He’s done this time and time again last year and again this year. It spoils a great game from Moseley. It’s really irritating that Girardi keeps pitching this guy.

oneof5 do you realize that Moseley has almost half the wins that Vasquez has in a limited role? This should tell Yankee fans something. Sorry I don’t buy the “dead arm” stuff. Vasquez had NO problem for the Braves or anywhere he has pitched in the NL. This guy does NOT want to pitch in NY. Still would try and trade him B4 the end of the year.

Agreed seeknay. Right now Nova is new and it will take a while for the opposition to figure him out. Still hope Andy is back soon, but now you have the option of Nova and Moseley. Moseley pitching great tonight. Reminds me of Mussina in his final years. Pitches smart. Good location and off speed pitches. Not overpowering fast ball. Here in Toronto so getting the games on TV but with Buck Martinez doing the commentary and a very biased Blue Jays perspective. At the game tomorrow night with my grand kids who are die hard Blue Jays fans. So should be interesting. It will be the rubber match of the series. There’s always lots of Yankee fans in the stands. By the way, Gardner strikes out again. He’s been doing too much of that for my liking.

Well looks like an easy night for Yankee fans with this 11-1 lead. Too bad they could not borrow a couple of HRs tonite and apply them to last night. Although I recall Yogi’s words, it ain’t over til it’s over. As for the Vasquez to the pen and Nova in the rotation, good move. I’d rather Nova throwing than Javy. Think this is the beginning of the end for Vasquez in pinstripes.
