8/12 – Yankees at Royals

Hello from high above the fountains at Kauffman Stadium – the ‘new’ K – as the Yankees open up a four-game series with the Royals.

Plenty for us to talk about pre-game: Mark Teixeira is back in the lineup after the birth of his 8-lb., 7-oz. baby boy, William Charles, while Curtis Granderson gets a chance to jump back in the lineup and try those new tweaks Kevin Long was glowing about in Texas.

Down in Tampa, Andy Pettitte played catch but held off on the simulated game for one day with tightness in his left hip flexor, which may or may not be related to compensating for the groin strain.

Finally, the Yankees are keeping a curious eye on Javier Vazquez, who is getting frustrated looking at the velocity readings on his fastball and seeing only 87-88 mph when he used to be around 92-93.

That’s a problem for another day, though. CC Sabathia has the ball tonight opposite Bruce Chen, as we’re underway in the land of barbecue.

Cano doesn’t hit lefties well. He looked uncomfortable on a few of those pitches and ended up hitting into a DP. Not a great at bat for Robbie. Yankees need to get a few more runs to have a safe lead. They have a chance to move ahead of the Rays another half game tonight as well as put a little more distance between the themselves and the Sox who got beat today.

Great turnaround last night. I gave up after 7 innings thinking the Yankees were not going to be able to come back. When I tuned in this morning and found out the Yankees won I was very surprised. But a great come back obviously. The Yankees should be able to put this one in the bank against Kansas City and with CC pitching unless the bull pen blows up later in the game. Need to get some runs on the board for CC. 2 runs probably won’t do it. With a team like KC the Yankees have a chance to put some distance between themselves and the Rays and the Sox.
