8/10 – Yankees at Rangers
Hello from a very hot Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, where the Yankees don’t even have time to get unpacked. This two-game series will be in the books before you know it, although the steamy weather will be lingering with the Bombers as they head to Kansas City later in the week.
YANKEES (69-42)
RANGERS (64-47)-
ROAD WARRIORS: The Yankees are 32-22 (.593) on the road this season, the second-best road winning percentage and second-most road wins in the Majors in 2010, behind Tampa Bay (34-21, .618)…have won 14 of their last 19 games and 17 of their last 24 away from Yankee Stadium.
-
THE CAPTAIN MARCHES ON: SS Derek Jeter is batting .344 (11-for-32) in August after combining to hit just .244 (51-for-209) over the two previous months (6/1-7/31)…has hit safely in nine of his last 11 contests, scoring 11 runs over the stretch. …Is tied with Mel Ott for 38th place on Baseball’s all-time list…with his next hit, will surpass Ott, who played his entire career with the New York Giants, for the most hits by a player while playing for a New York team (credit: Elias).
-
SET YOUR CLOCKS: The Yankees-White Sox game on Sunday, 8/29, at U.S. Cellular Field will begin at 2:05 p.m…the Yankees-Blue Jays game on Sunday, 9/5, at Yankee Stadium will start at 1:05 p.m.
-
GOLD CALIBER: SS Derek Jeter has gone 46 consecutive games at shortstop without committing an error (since 6/12)…according to Elias, ties the longest such streak of his career (also 6/15-8/7/04)…leads all Major League shortstops in fielding percentage in 2010 (.989) and has committed only 4E this season, tied for the third-fewest among Major League shortstops with at least 50G at the position.

Yeah it’s hot in Texas and it is beginning to look like the Yanks are cooked. They are the third or perhaps fourth best team in the AL right now and with the losses the last two days appear to be in a deep funk. Girardi is showing no signs of actually using strategy in these games, just send guys up to hack away, usually ending up in a strikeout or dp lately. Sadly, Jeet is looking his age, as is Posada, Tex is inconsistent and Berkman and Kearns look like total busts. They best get it turned around soon, or they may be fighting for a playoff against the BoSux. God help me.
