8/7 – Yankees vs. Red Sox

The big news of the day is that Alex Rodriguez was clipped by a Lance Berkman line drive during batting practice this afternoon and has been scratched from the Yankees lineup with what the team is calling a lower left leg contusion, near the base of his shin.

Here are this afternoon’s lineups for the 4:05 p.m. ET game, which can be seen on FOX:
RED SOX (63-47)
Marco Scutaro SS, Jed Lowrie 2B, David Ortiz DH, Victor Martinez C, Adrian Beltre 3B, Mike Lowell 1B, J.D. Drew RF, Bill Hall LF, Darnell McDonald CF.
John Lackey RHP (10-6, 4.48 ERA)

YANKEES (67-41)
Derek Jeter SS, Nick Swisher RF, Mark Teixeira 1B, Robinson Cano 2B, Jorge Posada C, Lance Berkman DH, Curtis Granderson CF, Brett Gardner LF, Ramiro Pena 3B.
CC Sabathia LHP (13-5, 3.19 ERA)

Here are today’s “Is that what you wanted to know?” Game Notes highlights…

  • THE CAPTAIN MARCHES ON: SS Derek Jeter went 1-for-3 in Friday’s loss vs. Boston, tying Babe Ruth (2,873) for 39th place on Baseball’s all-time hits list. …

Has scored at least one run in seven of his last eight games, including 8R combined over his last four games.

  • OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT: The Yankees have hit a two-run home run in each of their last four games and five of their last seven contests…according to the Elias Sports Bureau, the four-game streak with a first-inning homer coming with at least one runner on base is the longest such streak in team history and the longest by any Major League team since Colorado in August 1995…have scored in the first inning in nine of their last 11 home games…the Yankees are 38-13 this season when scoring the game’s first run.

  • CREATURE OF COMFORT: LHP CC Sabathia is undefeated in his last 17 starts at Yankee Stadium – dating back to the 2009 All-Star break, posting a 12-0 record with a 2.25 ERA (120.0IP, 30ER) and a .207 opponents batting average (89-for-429)…the Yankees have gone 15-2 in those starts. …
With a 149-86 career mark (.634), is looking for his 150th career win today…according to the Elias Sports Bureau, only three active pitchers have reached the plateau with fewer losses than Sabathia currently owns (Roy Halladay was 150-76, Tim Hudson was 150-79, and Andy Pettitte was 150-79).

  • SIGN ‘EM UP: The Yankees have signed three additional players from the 2010 First-Year Player Draft: RHP Thomas Kahnle (fifth round), C Christopher Austin (13th round) and LHP Kramer Sneed (32nd round)…the Yankees have now signed 18 player from their 2010 daft class, including 12 of the
top 24 selections and No. 1 pick SS Cito Culver out of Irondequoit High School in Rochester, N.Y…Monday, 8/16 is the signing deadline.

Wasn’t it good of AJ to come down with a bad back (Didn’t want to pitch against the SOX) Thank you, Dustin Moseley for the well pitched game… Now it’s up to Hughes to show his stuff and beat Lester and the Sox today… Was it a fluke or can we expect some good at bats from Berkman?? When does Grandy start to hit?? …. Can you believe the Rays lost 5 in a row?? “GO YANKEES!”

CC pitched a great game, We needed his strong performance. But where has the power pitcher gone? His K count is way off!
AJ goes today, Will the Bosox killer emerge or will we get another ***** cat performance from him. He has been the biggest disappointment this year.. We need big wins tonight, and on Monday too! I only hope that Arod is getting better and is in the lineup. How about those Rays, I can’t believe they lost 4 in a row? Shields was a master against us, Yesterday he gives up 7 dingers and he was unhittable pitching against us! It’s hard to believe so good and next so bad. I guess that’s baseball, You never know from one day to the next what will happen……..
“GO YANKEES!”
