In the words of Chan Ho Park: “Is that what you wanted to know?” Here are tonight’s Game Notes highlights…
  • IN SAFE KEEPING: The Yankees are 58-0 this season when leading at the end of the eighth inning…marks the best such record in the Majors and are one of only three teams without a loss after leading the game at the end of the eighth – also Kansas City (36-0) and Oakland (46-0).
  • OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT: The Yankees have hit a two-run home run in each of their last three games and four of their last six contests…have scored in the first inning in eight of their last 10 home games…the Yankees are 38-13 this season when scoring the game’s first run.
  • THE CAPTAIN MARCHES ON: SS Derek Jeter recorded his 35th career four-hit game in Wednesday’s win vs. Toronto, surpassing Bernie Williams (34) for the fourth-most in franchise history behind Lou Gehrig (53), Earle Combs (37) and Bill Dickey (36)…according to the Elias Sports Bureau, his 4-for-4 effort on Wednesday marked his ninth career “perfect day” at the plate in a game of at least four at-bats, breaking a tie with Thurman Munson for the most such games by any Yankees player over the last 75 seasons since 1936.

OK, Javy sucks, Frankie is no longer the golden boy, Berkman is stinking up the place. (I thought Long was going to fix the problem??)??? WILL CC show up today as our #1 or will he pitch another just enough to get by game, and lose. We can’t let these no name Sox whip us. We have an All_Star line up…..That is, when they start hitting the ball. TOO DAMN many Ks in critical situations. We need Arod to start pounding the ball, we need some power from his bat… I like the idea of scoring early but this is ridiculous, it appears we get a lead and our bats go silent. With our pitchers that is not enough, they need MORE RUNS…
Do you think Giradi is doing a good job managing?? ………….. “GO YANKEES!”

We better not be lulled into thinking this is only a 2 horse race. The Sox are only 5 games behind and they can make those up down the stretch with no problem the way they’ve been playing, injuries notwithstanding. The Yankees can’t beat a team with Youkilis out of the lineup and some other key players? All round tonight not a strong game from the Yankee team. Hopefully they’ll be ready with their A game tomorrow. They’ll need it with Lackey pitching.

Like

Berkman looks awkward at the plate and overweight and way past his prime. They’ve got Kearns and Thames sitting on the bench but they’re not much of an upgrade. At least Kerry Wood held the score for his relief appearance tonight. Yanks fizzled in the 8th. Only have one more chance.

Like

Berkman a great pick up? A 1.11 average since joining the Yankees. He’s the best they can do at the DH position? Nick Johnson was a bust and have paid him to sit and do nothing all year. How long do we give him and make excuses about his being with one team all his career and playing in the NL blah blah Better to have had Posada DHing tonight. He is more productive even at his age. Whatever spark of fire there might have been early for the Yankees has long since gone out and we’re just stumbling to the end.

Like

The Jays win it 2-1. Chance for the Yankees to go ahead of the Rays 1 1/2 if they can pull this one out. I don’t get the feel they are in the frame of mind to do it. Not looking strong at the plate tonight and Javy didn’t help giving up 6 runs. Chamberlain didn’t last long again. The Yankees need to get a rally going here soon or it will be game over.

Like

Yeah I’ve never heard of that Kalish guy. I can’t believe they didn’t pick up a starter @ the deadline. This team blows.

Like

Vasquez = *UCKS, Burnett = Eqaully *UCKS. We NEED Andy back asap.

Like

We can only hope that the Jays can pull out a win tonight against the Rays. Tied 1-1 and a real pitchers’ duel.

Like

Way to go Girardi. Leave Javy in too long and a rookie hits his first home run in his big league career. What’s up with that? Javy is missing his spots and has been most of the game. Now a much bigger hole to climb out of. No matter how many injuries the Sox keep coming up with players that keep them on a winning streak. Not the best outing for Javy. Finally they’re taking Javy out a couple of hitters too late. Girardi doesn’t always have a good feel as to when to pull a pitcher out. He’s guilty of leaving them in one inning, one batter too long.

Like

One run but should have been more. The Yankee hitters have to get the guys on base home. LOoked to me like Cano wasn’t making much of an effort to drive home the guys on base. Hit into a lazy ground out. Cano is having a great year but I’d like to see him play with more intensity and fire in his belly. He’s too lackadasical for me.

Like

Where has this guy been all game? That’s the Beltre I’m used to seeing.

Like

Excluding a few guys, the Yanks are too slow & too old.

Like

They show his # w/ 2 outs & RISP which is always a curse. Cervelli strikes out.

Like

That’s the difference. The yankees commit an error in the 2nd inning and then as a result give up 3 runs but the Sox commit an error and the pitcher retires the side with no hits or runs. Sox capitalize while the Yankees don’t.

Like

Personally I don’t think Cervelli is ready for the big leagues yet. He’s not great defensively and weak at the plate. I’m not sure he’s the every day catcher of the future as Posada is not able to play regularly given his age and physical ailments.

Like

2 on & nobody out. Any other team scores @ leat 1 run. Not the Yankees. This game is over & this inning is one of the reasons.

Like

Annoying. An error and two on base and a chance to get a couple of runs and Granderson hits into a double play which he does too often. He’s not the guy I’d want at the plate to drive any runs in. And Berkman is too slow running the bases. If they don’t take advantage of their opportunities they are not going to win this game or any game.

Like

Sac bunt by Granderson uh no doubleplay to Lowell who doesn’t know how to play 1B.

Like

What do you know? 1-2-3.

Like

1-2-3 great. Now Vasquez is coming back out.

Like

That stupid error can take the air out of a team. The inning went on and on. Javy was obviously upset about Cervelli’s dropped ball and getting in the way and it showed in his control and being able to put batters away. Too many full counts and then he ends up throwing a fast ball across the plate and it gets dinged. since the 2nd inning the yankees have just been going through the motions at the plate.

Like

Your guess is as good as mine. They Yankees just don’t want it.

Like

How can you not beat a team, even the Sox, which is riddled with key injuries. The Sox because of the injuries can be had at this point . The Yankees need to take advantage to get as far ahead as possible. Once the Sox get their players back they’re going to be tough to beat and they’re going to contend down the stretch.

Like

1of5 maybe Cervelli has better number against Buttholz.
I say Javy is out by the 3rd or sooner.

Like

Nice catch by Tex.

Like

Unbelievable! Stupid dropped ball by Cervelli and because of it Javy has a meltdown and the Sox score three runs. You’re right NoDigidee, Vasquez shouldn’t have been in the way trying to play the ball. It was Cervelli’s ball but he should have caught it anyway. it left the door open for three runs. Why isn’t Posada catching? Giving him the night off playing the Sox? Cervelli shows his inexperience. Vasquez can’t get the bottom of the lineup out which is the weak part of the Sox lineup. He’ll be out of the game after the 4th inning anyway with all the pitches he’s thrown. And GAudin warming up? I hope not. That would really be a disaster. We might as well kiss this first game of the series goodbye.

Note to D-Bag, on a pop up, let your catcher catch it. Get the hell out of there. You’re lucky you got out of the inning. Ship this **** back to the NL where he belongs!

Like

Get Javier D-Bag out of NY. He sucks! This team will be lucky to win wildcard.
