FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STATEMENT FROM: FAMILY OF GEORGE M. STEINBRENNER III

RE: THE PASSING OF YANKEES PRINCIPAL OWNER / CHAIRPERSON GEORGE M. STEINBRENNER III
“It is with profound sadness that the family of George M. Steinbrenner III announces his passing. He passed away this morning in Tampa, Fla., at age 80.
“He was an incredible and charitable man. First and foremost he was devoted to his entire family – his beloved wife, Joan; his sisters, Susan Norpell and Judy Kamm, his children, Hank, Jennifer,  Jessica and Hal; and all of his grandchildren.
“He was a visionary and a giant in the world of sports. He took a great but struggling franchise and turned it into a champion again.”
Mr. Steinbrenner recently celebrated his 80th birthday on July 4.
Funeral arrangements will be private. There will be an additional public service with details to be announced at a later date.

My deepest sympathies go to the Steinbrenner family. I have been a life-long fan of the Yankees (more than 50 years), and to lose Bob Sheppard, AND THE BOSS in one week, is just unbelievable. R.I.P. Mr. Steinbrenner. We will miss you.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you here and throughout the Yankee Universe. Mr Steinbrenner changed baseball in many ways and touched many peoples lives on a personal level with his profound generosity. He leaves this earth and the baseball world a better place for the things he did.

RIP Mr Steinbrenner.

Simply put, “The Boss” was the greatest owner of any sport franchise in history. He took a hapless Yankee franchise back to winning World Series Championships. He once said “that breathng was number one and winning was number two.” What sport fan wouldn’t want an owner so committed and dedicated to winning?

RIP George. Thank you for all you have done for our team and the people you have helped along the way. We will miss you.

I’d like to say that how sorry I am to the family, that includes the Yankee org. Steinbrener was a man that made us all laugh, jealous, clap, shout, love or despise his actions-but he was great at what he did- YANKEE’S ALL THE WAY. My husband has always been a Yankee fan and got his 1st hat the day he was born 7-4-1956. Mac has ALWAYS loved the Yankee’s & Steinbrener, they’ve been a good thing in his life-FUN! Once again-we’ll ALL miss him. Bye Goerge & thank -you!

I’m in shock! First the voice of GOD and now “The BOSS!” There were times I was mad about things he had done or dictated, but those memories are fast fading. A fond farewell to the man driven to win at any cost!!!

“TO ALL YANKEE FANS AND FAMILY”
Sincerest condolences from a RAYS FAN on your loss.I grew up a yankee fan as a young baseball fan in N.Y. From George’s first days to the last, he wanted what every baseball fan wants, for their team to win.I remember all the controversy surrounding this man in the early days, but here in TAMPA BAY, Mr. Steinbrenner was was the most giving, helping, and involved person in this area.He was instrumental in MLB allowing Tampa Bay to have a team, and for that all RAYS fans should be eternally grateful. To lose the voice(SHEP) and the heart and soul(MR. S) of your team in the past three days is an overwhelming loss to deal with. My heartfelt sympathy, as well as all baseball fans is with you all today.
