Lee likes New York

Cliff Lee wasn’t shy
in stating how much he enjoys pitching in Yankee Stadium after last night’s
complete-game victory over the Bombers. And why not? Lee improved to 3-0 with a
1.50 ERA in his three starts at the Stadium, two of which were complete games.

“I like pitching
here,” Lee said. “You are going to have a sellout, there are going to
be a lot of fans. I always enjoyed pitching here; they are knowledgeable fans
and get into it. As a player, that’s what you like and respect. Obviously, I
try to keep them as quiet as possible when I am facing these guys.”

Lee didn’t answer a
“loaded question” on his preferences if he is indeed traded in the
next month. Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi diplomatically answered a question
asking whether Lee was the kind of pitcher the Yankees might be looking to add
before July 31.

“There’s 30 clubs
that would love to have Cliff Lee,” Girardi said. “And you can
probably throw in how many are in Japan and any other country. Obviously,
that’s not something we talk about openly…but you’re talking about a top-end
starter that I think every club would love to have.”

General manager Brian
Cashman could be spotted on the field before Tuesday’s game chatting with
Mariners’ counterpart Jack Zduriencik, but Cashman only laughed at the idea
that the two were working on a deal. For more on Lee and the trade talk, Jim Street has the latest for Mariners.com

Cold bats and very hot opposing pitchers. Not a good combination!
With his opt-out today, Dustin Moseley probably gets a chance to pitch in NY. He may be a decent upgrade for length now that he’s healthy, but, I’m not expecting a lot.
