6/8 – Yankees at Orioles

Hello from Oriole Park at Camden Yards, where the Yankees have taken a quick lead on Nick Swisher’s 10th home run of the year, a two-run shot in the top of the first inning. You might not have noticed it with all the Stephen Strasburg hype, but there is indeed another game here in the area tonight.
Early news here as Jorge Posada went through catching drills for the first time since that right foot fracture, though the Yankees aren’t setting a timetable for when he’ll actually get behind the plate. It seems that this weekend would be too optimistic for that, so don’t count on it, but the Yankees ideally do need him to prove he can catch by the time games start in National League parks.
Once again, you’ll see Mark Teixeira batting third, and Joe Girardi said that he hasn’t seriously considered flipping him and Robinson Cano in the order this year. The standard response is that Teixeira has always been a three-hitter and that the back of his baseball card says he’ll find a way out of this. He did single in the first inning, so maybe that’s progress.
“The reason that he’s struggling is because his mechanics are out of whack,” Girardi said. “What we’re trying to do is get him back to his mechanics. For whatever reason, it’s been a little bit harder for them to be consistent this year.”

At AAA last night, Tim Redding pitched well and seems to be rounding into shape. Add his name and Jason Hirsh to the list of replacement candidates for Gaudin.

Eiland is on leave to handle some family matters.

Gaudin seemed serviceable in 2009. A lot of people are scratching their heads over his ineffective 2010 including Billy Beane and Brian Cashman!

Like

Anyone know where Dave Island was tonight? Maike Harkey was doing the pitching coaching. (I didn’t watch the whole game, so don’t know if he was thrown out).

Sara Palin? You should be lucky to get her…

Like

robertg I don’t care who they bring up just get rid of Gaudin. Four runs vs. the O’s in two innings in a mop up role is unacceptable. The guy has pitched like GARBAGE in spring training and in both sessions with the Yankees. Time to say goodbye Chad.

Like

Gaudin reminds me of Sarah Palin .. just makes me wanna puke. Minor leaguers at best.

Oakland tossed Gaudin to the curb and ole Cashmen who loves picking through garbage feels Gaudin has something left.. of course he does.. he loves giving up hits and runs to last place teams… good thing he hasnt pitches against Bosox or Tampa.. it would be over in a heartbeat.

Lets get rid of Gaudin and fire Cashman.

I doubt you’ll see the development of Romulo Sanchez interrupted by having him sit in the bullpen as the long man. The same for Ivan Nova. We could see Boone Logan again or either of Royce Ring or Zach Segovia.

Like

If Gaudin struggles vs. the O’s then he’s done. 12-7 now. Get him the *ell out of the game and release him now.

Thames stats are:

If Thames bat becomes unproductive he would probably be DFA?d and replaced by a AAA OF. Right now he is giving us what we want and should not see much time in the field. There are currently two AAA choices but some roster juggling would provide two more. I doubt we would trade any talent before those AAA options are explored.

Can we please stop with the Chad Gaudin experiment? Both he and Thames’ career are OVER. I mean bring up Romulo Sanchez & another outfielder please!!!!

Like

Chad Gaudin. Good job we’re ahead 12-3.

Can anyone tell me why we kept Thames? We let Winn go and kept Thames. Thames was also a poor signing in the off season. There’s got to be someone better in the system we could bring up or sign someone else and let Thames go. He really is a liabilty in the field and does little at the plate.

Man, Swisher is really having a great year at the plate and in the field. It looks like maybe Tex has found his stroke again. Let’s hope it’s long term and not a one game blip. ARod is not getting it done tonight. Others have stepped up to fill the gap.

Like

Good to see Swish’s two out 3 run double followed by Tex’s long ball. Don’t care that it is against the lowly O’s good to see Tex get some hits. BTW for those who did not see the Strasburg kid with the Nat’s pitched one *ell of a game tonite vs. the Pirates.

Like

Posada’s not comfortable at the plate yet. It’s taking him a while to get back into shape again. Used to be old Mr. reliable. Not sure if he’ll ever get back to what he was, even last year.

Isn’t ARod a piece of work. Bases loaded and grounds out. He really has been a streaky hitter this year. Between him and Tex they really haven’t contributed a great deal at the plate. Does no roids translate into few home runs? If the Yankees have a hope of getting to the World Series then these two guys are going to have to get hot and stay hot.

Like

Can we get two grand slams in the same game? ARod hasn’t done anything yet. Chance to redeem himself here.

Like

Now is the chance for Tex to show that he’s back. Two on. Good spot for a home run. Will we get a strike out instead? Arod hasn’t done anything yet tonight.

Like

Actually Hughes strike ball ratio is not that good tonight. He seems to be struggling even though the yankees are ahead. I can only watch on gameday. Can’t get the game here other than on pay per view.

Like

We had a 6 run lead. Let’s not blow it now. Maybe Hughes has had enough. Hopefully Girardi won’t leave him in too long although we don’t have a lot of confidence in the pen.

Like

Or to Granderson? Grand salami for the center fielder. Great he’s starting to produce at the plate. it will help put away the criticism that the Yankees didn’t get that great a deal in getting Granderson. Hopefully Tex will get his mechanics and his head straightened out and start hitting like he can and should given the mega bucks he’s being paid.

Like

He wasn’t real pleased with D.J. Reyburn’s strike zone, for what it’s worth.

Like

I can understand ARod striking out swinging, but striking out looking at the last two strikes? These two guys in the middle of the lineup need to get it going and soon if the yankees are going to catch the Rays. They can’t leave it to Swisher and CAno to get the job done.
