5/10 – Yankees at Tigers

Detroit.jpgHello from Comerica Park in Detroit, where the Yankees are opening a four game series with the Tigers. Before the game, the Tigers paid tribute to the late, great broadcaster Ernie Harwell, who passed away on May 4 at the age of 92 and had a deep and profound impact in this city and on the game.

The Yankees might be dragging a little bit after getting into town after 4 a.m. this morning from Boston. The beat writers certainly are; the Red Bull company seems to be doing well here today. Chalk me up for two cans already.
In any event, Joe Girardi said that he’d turn cartwheels if he can get five innings out of Sergio Mitre tonight. Ivan Nova has been called up from Triple-A to replace Romulo Sanchez on the roster and could be the first man out in relief if Girardi doesn’t get that wish fulfilled.
The original idea was that the Yankees would be seeing Dontrelle Willis tonight, but he was scratched with a fever. Jorge Posada gets back behind the plate after that strained right calf, according to Girardi’s master plan.

Chamberlain is shaping up to be a great set up man in the late innings. It’s now up to the heart of the lineup for the Yankees to pull this one out in the 9th, and then turn the ball over to Mo.

Like

Jeter has had a real off night at the plate. Not good clutch hitting in the 8th with men on base.

The Yankees need to take advantage of opportunities. Bases loaded and no outs and are going to b e lucky to get 2 runs. Should have more than that except for the bottom of the order which is rather weak tonight with Thames and Winn in the lineup.

Randy Winn has left 7 men on base tonight. He really is a second rate player the Yankees picked up in the off season. He is certainly not a replacement for Johnny Damon or for Cabrera. Not a good decision. Neither Winn or Thames were good pick ups.

yea Winn was a real “good pick up”, none of the pickups are even around right now!! HAHAHAHAHHA cashman at his greatest!!

Interesting Johnny Damon batting .295 and hits a home run tonight against his old team . We should never have let those two guys go, Matsui and Damon, for Granderson and Winn and Thames even though Matsui is probably done in the field. He’s still a great hitter especially in clutch situations. Thames was really lost in left field last night.

Did the Yankees use up all their offence in the first two games against Boston? They need to get it going soon in this game if they hope to win it. There are no Cy Young candidates on the mound for the Tigers.

No, not David Robertson in again. How long is Girardi going to go with this kid? How often does he have to screw up before he gets sent down to the minors? I guess Aceves is injured but there’s got to be someone else other than Robertson. He hasn’t proven himself in any outing this year. Are we trying to throw the game away?

This team NEEDS to get healthy!

Mitre isn’t going to do it as a #5 starter. Hopefully Petitte will be back to take his next start in the rotation. With the Rays contining to win the Yankees need to keep winning too to keep up. The Blue Jays are hot on their heels.
