Yankees going for the sweep

It’s a sunny Mother’s Day in Boston (did you remember to call Mom today?), temperatures in the fifties and a cool wind whipping through the streets, and I’m high above Fenway Park as the Yankees will go for a three-game sweep on national television tonight.

While we wait for the clubhouse to open at the customary three hours and 30 minutes before first pitch, here are some helpful facts courtesy of the Yankees:
STREAKERS: The Yankees have won four straight games at Fenway Park (since 4/6), marking their longest winning streak at Boston since taking seven straight from 5/23-8/21/06…are looking for their first three-game sweep at Fenway since  8/31-9/2/01…with their win on Saturday, have tied their season highs with a six-game overall winning streak (also 4/15-21) and four-game road winning streak (also 4/10-21)…will set season highs in both categories with a win tonight…have outscored opponents 51-16 during their current six-game winning streak…have won nine of their last 10 overall games and 16 of their last 21.
ON GARD!: OF Brett Gardner has a 10-game hitting streak and is batting .429 (15-for-35) with 12R, 1 double, 1HR, 3RBI and 5SB over the stretch…needs one hit in his next game to tie his personal career-high hitting streak (11G: 9/15/08-4/6/09) as well as  Derek Jeter’s 11-game streak for the longest by a Yankee this season.
SERIESOUSLY SPEAKING: With their series clinching win on Saturday, the Yankees have won nine of their first 10 series of 2010, matching a feat accomplished just twice by the franchise (1939 – won 11 of their first 12 series; and 1928 – won 14 of first 15) according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
LEAVING HIS MARK: In Saturday’s 14-3 win at Boston, 1B Mark Teixeira recorded his third career 3HR game (also 6/22/08 w/ Atlanta vs. Seattle and 7/13/06 w/ Texas at Baltimore) and matched his career high with four hits (19th time)…had more homers on Saturday than he did in his prior 28 games of the season combined (2HR)… Lou Gehrig (3HR in 11-4 NYY win on 6/23/27 at Fenway Park) as the only Yankees in the history of the rivalry to have a three-homer game against the Red Sox.

Perfect game.

Perfecto through 8 against Tampa Bay for Braden.

Wonder if Aybar will bunt to lead off the 9th, just to hear a lecture on the unwritten rules of baseball.

Dallas Braden is perfect through 7. All that screaming at A-Rod seems to have done him good.
