Yanks calling for a May Day

Just checking in as I enjoy a weekend off in New York coming off that 10-day trip to Oakland, Anaheim and Baltimore — with a little pit stop in Washington, D.C. mixed in — and while Anthony DiComo and Tim Britton are minding the store up at Yankee Stadium …

It wasn’t the prettiest of beginnings to May on the field for the Yankees, even though the weather felt almost like summer. Javier Vazquez still can’t find a formula that works for him and the next time he pitches it’ll be without his centerfielder, as Curtis Granderson strained his groin rounding second base on Saturday and is headed to the 15-day disabled list. Mark Melancon has joined the team from Triple-A.
There’s plenty there if you choose to look at the glass half-empty, but there’s no need to go overboard. Think of it this way, as Joe Girardi said yesterday – they’re 15-8 and they’ve done that largely without Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez contributing, Vazquez MIA as the fourth starter and Nick Johnson able to do little but walk or get hit by pitches.
And 15-8, last we checked, was still a winning record – something that Toronto, Boston and Baltimore can’t claim this morning in the American League East.
So life goes on up in the Bronx. The Yankees will try to win the rubber game of their three-game set with the White Sox Sunday afternoon and then welcome the Orioles back to town after taking two of three from the Birds at Camden Yards last week.
As for me, I’ll be keeping busy playing in a doubleheader somewhere out in the swamps of Jersey, which I’m pretty excited about. Hey, gotta get ready for that big game against the Boston media! See you all tomorrow from the Stadium.

SWB completes their shut out!

robertg: takes more than a month to win me over, just glad to see some maturity on his part. I will bet that perhaps Andy, CC, and Mo. may have a hand in this. *ell there goes the shutout.

Haha Robert. When I read the six Yankees on base I thought it was the first half of a riddle.

Nice to hear Scranton loaded the bases as well. Hope they are winning that game.

There were just six Yankees on base at once! Three in NY and three in Norfolk (SWB)!

Over the past three I have been a huge critic of Phil Hughes and his lack of maturity. Let me be the first to acknowledge his improvement as a starter. Today’s performance is one of mastery over a good Chicago team. Now if he could share some of his success with Vasquez it will set the rotation.

Did they name Cano as player of the month for April yet?

Is anyone else out there watching via MLB out there. Here in Australia it seems every year at the start the coverage is well below par with constant coverage freezing or no coverage at all.
