Yankees claim Chad Huffman from Padres
BOSTON – The Yankees have claimed first baseman-outfielder Chad Huffman on waivers from the Padres, and will assign him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman confirmed the move on Wednesday. San Diego had designated Huffman for assignment on Sunday in order to make room on their roster for Matt Stairs.
The 24-year-old hit .269 with 20 home runs and 68 RBIs in 135 games last season at Triple-A Portland of the Pacific Coast League. He defeated former Yankees prospect Shelley Duncan in last year’s Triple-A All-Star Game Home Run Derby.
