3/11 – Yankees vs. Braves

The tarp is on the field at George M. Steinbrenner Field, but tonight’s game is still on as scheduled – the first evening tilt of the spring for the Bombers. The forecast doesn’t look fantastic but so far it’s business as usual.

By the way, as the Braves make their first visit of the spring, Melky Cabrera is not on the trip but former Yankee Eric Hinske is. Here are tonight’s lineups:

McLouth CF
Prado 2B
Heyward RF
Glaus 1B
McCann C
Escobar SS
Hinske DH
Diaz LF
Infante 3B

Jair Jurrjens RHP

Jeter SS Winn DH
Swisher RF
Teixeira 1B
Rodriguez 3B
Posada C
Thames LF
Winn DH Hoffmann CF
Pena SS
Corona 2B

A.J. Burnett RHP – three innings or 50 pitches, whichever comes first.
Also pitching for the Yankees – Jonathan Albaladejo, Kei Igawa, Mark Melancon, Royce Ring, Dave Robertson, Amaury Sanit, Kevin Whelan.

  • Just noticed this, for your information – a limited number of tickets remain to the Yankees’ home Spring Training games on March 24 vs. Washington, March 30 vs. Toronto and April 2 vs. Baltimore.
  • Derek Jeter was scratched from the Yankees lineup at approximately 3:30 p.m. The Yankees have announced that it is due to flu-like symptoms.
  • Joe Girardi thinks the Yankees are playing tonight, but there’s a chance it might not go the full nine innings. … Looks like Mariano Rivera will throw March 16 vs. the Astros; Damaso Marte March 17 at Philadelphia. … Francisco Cervelli has been encouraged to give the new Rawlings S100 batting helmet a try. … Hal Steinbrenner met with Girardi this afternoon to talk about the state of the Yankees. They’ll do it again next week. …
  • Update 7:03 p.m. — We’re officially going to be in a rain delay. The tarp is on the field and fans have scattered for cover.
