Welcome to the blogosphere, Morgan
I never got to say goodbye to Morgan Ensberg.
Not in person, anyway. We were in Minnesota on June 1, 2008, and I’d had a brief chat with Ensberg before the clubhouse closed for batting practice. I remember Morgan was munching on a cheeseburger, saying something about how he thought he was finding himself at the plate and had a feeling that things were going to turn around.
The Yankees went out for batting practice, and when they returned, Ensberg was gone – designated for assignment to create room for a pitcher, Scott Patterson. He couldn’t have known it at the time, but Ensberg had logged his final big league at-bat. In that news story, Joe Girardi talks about how Ensberg brought “a great attitude to the park every day.”
That definitely translated for reporters. I recall having one lengthy 20-minute chat with Ensberg when I was working on a fun story about baseball travel. He found the topic interesting and gave me a lot of background on how these guys really get from Point A to Point B to Point C, sometimes within the span of a week.
Anyway, I was happy to see Ensberg pop back online last week, launching his own blog at MorganEnsberg.com. I’m looking forward to hearing his thoughts on baseball again, and you might find them interesting as well.
