Cervelli suffers concussion, taken for CT scan
Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli suffered a concussion Saturday after being hit in the helmet by a fastball while batting against Blue Jays right-hander Zech Zinicola in the third inning at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Cervelli, who is celebrating his 24th birthday, was struck in the front of his helmet by the pitch and crumpled to the ground.
Manager Joe Girardi came out immediately and, after a brief delay, Cervelli stood under his own power, walking off the field with Girardi and assistant trainer Steve Donohue. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital for a precautionary CT scan.
