Jeter: It just keeps getting better

022410Jeter.jpgAs the Yankees prepared to gather on the field for the first time as a full unit in 2010, Derek Jeter was sitting in front of a microphone in the party tent off the third-base side at George M. Steinbrenner Field, which hasn’t exactly been the most fun place in Tampa the last few years.

It was there that Andy Pettitte talked about performance-enhancing drugs in 2008, and Alex Rodriguez did the same last spring around this time. Jeter had an issue to talk about as well, his expiring contract, but he handled that all in typical Captain fashion.

“This is the only organization I’ve ever wanted to play for,” Jeter said. “That’s still true today. I was a Yankees fan growing up, and this is where I want to be. I’ve never envisioned myself playing anywhere else, and hopefully I don’t have to.”

(Read more from Jeter here. We’ll have a full-fledged news story shortly; the quickie is up now.)

Jeter said that he wants to keep playing “as long as I can, as long as I’m having fun, and as long as I’m being productive.” And why would he leave now? After all, he finally got his Spring Training morning with the cameras and bright lights.

“It keeps getting better,” Jeter said, with a laugh. “I’m out here in the tent with you guys this year. It just keeps getting better and better.”

That’s why Derek Jeter is the captain. He tells it like it is.
Jeter doesn’t have to be loud or make a scene about anything that goes on in the yankees organization. I really Derek becuase he has class, knows how to talk well, calm, cool, and relax – the Captain has it all. For outside fans who hate Jeter – I really can’t see why but unfortunately the one thing for sure for his hatred would be because he’s a yankee but overall outside fans should show Derek Jeter alittle more respect. These days I just wish rivalry would go away – I seen more violence, corruption, and physical abuse happen at games. So childish – adults can’t behave like adults! I know its tradition but at least in the early days it was like today’s response on rivalry! God Bless Derek Jeter I really hope he does stay with Yankees up to the day he retires. Lets keeep on winning Derek! GO YANKEES!
