Cashman bows out on big-money outfielders

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said on Tuesday that a big-money outfielder does not fit into his budget plan for 2010, a statement which would effectively take New York out of the running for a player like Jason Bay or Matt Holliday.

“I will continue to look at any remaining piece, but it won’t be a big piece,” Cashman said, on a conference call to discuss the Javier Vazquez trade. “Any speculation about some high-end player who has big ability and dollars attached on a large scale would be inappropriate.”

If the season started today, the Yankees’ outfield would be comprised of Brett Gardner and Jamie Hoffmann in left field, Curtis Granderson in center field and Nick Swisher in right field.

If money is an issue; why not sign Pedro and Dye for little to nothing and still get bang for the money spent?

am i’m i the only one who feels the Yankees would be better if they traded Arod…i love him as a player…(and they should have played hardball with him when they negotiated with him)because he makes too much money…he is doing to the Yankees what he did to the Rangers…by nogotiating a contract that handcuffs the team he is on…QUESTION:Would the Yaankees be better with Adrian Beltre and Matt Holliday and the left over money for another high end bull pen guy like Jose Valverde or Kiko Calero or as they are with maybe Xavier Nady added…will shall see…Question:if the Yankees have this budget restriction now…what will they do if Joe Mauer Carl Crawford and Cliff Lee hit free agency…the money comming off the books next year will not cover those free agents…even if Pettitte’s 11.75 mil 4 mill they have for a left fielder this year Dereck Jeter’s 21 mill becomes free and Mo Rivera’s 15 mill comes off it isn’t enough to bring in those free agents if the Yanks resign 2 or all 3 of their own free agents first…so i ask again is Arod more important than the flexibility and collective talent that falls by the way side…?

The Yankees look the Favorites to return to the World Series…BUT-it seems like the Red Sox may be willing to expand their budget to resign Jasson Bay…if this happens then a line up with say…Xavier Nady with the Yanks rotation Vs. the Red Sox rotation may not be enough…The Yankees have enough talent to win the World Series but they may not have enough to win the ALCS…i think they may have to expand payroll some if they really want to repeat…because they will not be able to bring back Johnny Damon on 4 million a year…

Good, we don’t need another bat, or outfielder, or infielder or pitcher! Four good starters is better than last year, and we won the WS! Leave Huges AND Jaba in the bull pen, and work with the “long” releavers; what else do we need? I say nothing, what do you think?
