Damon’s asking price too high for Yankees

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has said that nothing is hot at
the moment with free agent outfielder Johnny Damon, and Scott Boras’
asking price may have a lot to do with that.

The New York Daily
News reported Sunday that the Yankees have not made an offer to Damon,
citing team sources. That is because Boras informed them not to bother
unless it was for at least three years and no less than the $13 million
salary that Damon made last year, the report stated.

New York’s
stance on Damon is that they want him back but are not prepared to go
beyond two years at approximately $8 million per season. Cashman has
said that he does not feel like he is “waiting anyone out,” but the
Yankees’ trade for Curtis Granderson allows them to take more of a
hard-line stance with a player like Damon.

I think that Rocco Baldelli is a viable answer left field. Although I respect and lie Damon as a player he is too old and limited. Baldelli if used properly and kept healthy could prove to be a good pick up. He is capable of playing all three outfield positions and when healthy he is a good hitter and base stealing threat. I don’t believe tht Nic Swisher is an every day player. The big IF is his health, but he could be signed for a reasonable amount of money.

Tha Yankees may need to look at signing Mat Holliday or Jason Bay because they are going to need a little offense to get by Boston now that they have signed Lackey and they also took Camoron is now also off the market…so who will they go after…Jack Cust maybe…we’ll see…

Do NOT resign Damon. While he did contribute during the time he was here, he is no longer needed. And the price is so high it’s silly! The DH spot should be reserved for Jorge (35 games); Nick S (35 games); Alex (10 games) and a few more. Save the money DH’s and spend it on John Lackey.

The Granderson trade looks even better when you consider that the Yankees don’t even have to think about overpaying Johnny Damon. Without the deal they might have been forced to.
