Some talk about Hideki

Busy day thus far, with the Brian Bruney trade done and the Yankees apparently getting serious with Andy Pettitte. Here’s something lighter, as White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen fielded a few questions about Hideki Matsui here in the work room this afternoon:

On Matsui’s World Series performance: “He made Girardi proud.  It was unbelievable.  This guy stepped up when they needed it, when they needed it the most.  It’s not because of the World Series nobody would be talking about him right now.  He says I’ve got another good year, but I think the World Series will help him a lot to be a free agent.  He was pretty impressed.”

On being interested in managing Matsui:  “I don’t mind.  I manage two Japanese players and it’s fun.  The only thing, I’ve got 20 Japanese guys around all the time.  I’ve got all the media around.  But I love it because all of a sudden when you get fired from the United States, you might have a chance to manage in Japan, you never know.”

On if the White Sox would have room for a DH: “We’ve got room for a lot of people.  You know, Andruw (Jones), we need one more guy that could be him, but he’d have to show us he can play the outfield, too.”

By the way, Joe Girardi will be in town for a 4:30 p.m. press conference on Tuesday.

We gave up WAY too much for Granderson. We needed another lefty .250 hitter who can hit homers???? NO.

I can only reiterate Bobs comments ” Welcome Back ” where the hell have you been and more important How The Hell have you been.

I do agree they will not get rid of Melky as he has upside over Gardner. They may decide to hang on to Gardner if there is a rule change and teams can at any one stage be allowed to put a runner on base for free, without hitting , being hit or walked as that sadly appears to be his only upside in The Majors , running. Yes he can field but that is all. He has been a huge dissapointment offensively real huge given all the fuss about him. Why would they bring back Hinske ? Why did they aquire him as he only appeared likely to get a run if all bench players and then grandparents were used and if so then they would consider playing him. I for one was very confused with his non appearances after he was signed.

I also think we would move Melky over Gardner. Girardi just loves that speed as do I. Hasn’t Seattle expressed some interest? And Melky is near his ceiling as a player and trade value. Dare we dream of King Felix?

Granderson is good but, the Yanks should’ve thrown someone else in instead of A-Jax.

Is Granderson really worth these 3 guys? He can’t his lefties.

Is Granderson an upgrage offensively over Melky and Gardiner the answer catergorically yes. There may be a problem though if they let Swisher go then it translates itno a straight swap in all areas. So I guess Swisher will now remain leaving Melky and Gqardiner off the bench presuming they resign Damon. If they do all of that then Granderson is a very handy upgrade in what was nearly our downfall in the post season.
Now for some improvement in our pitching.

That said has anyone any idea on the progress and staus of Wang for 2010.

Pretty nice thing for Ozzie to say, but I don’t think the White Sox will sign Matsui. I think Matsui is gonna end p a Mariner with Ichiro

Isn’t that kind of weird to hear a manager admit that he’s keeping one foot in the door as a Japanese manager?
