The Boss expected in the house
George M. Steinbrenner is expected to attend tonight’s Game 1 of the World Series, marking the first time the Yankees principal owner has been in the new Yankee Stadium since Opening Day on April 16.
Steinbrenner met with the Yankees twice at Tropicana Field, including during the last series of the season, when his message to the Bombers was to “keep doing what you’re doing.” They did, winning seven of nine postseason games to punch their ticket to the Fall Classic.
“I’m thrilled,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “I thought it was a big thrill for all of us when we saw him in Tampa. Everyone went and saw him and he was excited, very complimentary to all the guys. I’m sure it means a lot, because of his desire for excellence all the time and what he’s done for this organization and city. He spares nothing for a winner.”
