Wrapping it up from Tropicana Field

Andy Pettitte didn’t have much going his way on Saturday, but he said that there isn’t any reason to worry as he looks ahead to his American League Division Series start on either Friday or next Sunday, depending on how the Yankees want to set this up.

“I’ve given up nine runs and went out and had a great postseason,” Pettitte said. “I’ve dealt and gotten lit up in the first round of the playoffs. As far as that with me, it’s no big deal.”

Joe Girardi acknowledged that the Yankees might be having some trouble taking these games seriously, looking ahead to the postseason. But Johnny Damon broke a 2-for-27 skid with an RBI single and the Yankees got 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief from Alfredo Aceves (throwing error aside) and Chad Gaudin, making some choices tougher for the playoff roster.

“There’s going to be some tough decisions,” Girardi said. “We’re going to take our time making those decisions because we can. We’ll get back and talk on Monday about everything.”
Girardi said that the Yankees will field their ‘A’ lineup on Sunday, with the exception of Jose Molina catching Burnett instead of Jorge Posada. But Posada will still be busy, occupying the role of the Yankees’ player-manager in an old honor Joe Torre used to pass out for game No. 162.

Other notes:
Right-hander Sergio Mitre is dealing with a bout of biceps tendinitis, which could keep him off the ALDS roster. Mitre is 3-3 with a 6.79 ERA in 12 games (nine appearances in 2009 … The Yankees have lost three straight fort the first time since July 30-Aug. 1 at Chicago … Pettitte made his 384th appearance as a Yankee on Saturday, passing Johnny Murphy (383) for eighth place in franchise history … Mark Teixeira has an AL-leading 122 RBIs, surpassing his 2008 total of 121 with the Angels and Braves.

Thanks! I wish it was a little busier around here, and I’m not sure what to make of it. I know there have been technical problems but that can’t be the only reason!

We had better win the game tomorrow to end this season on a high note as we head into the ALDS. Should be fun watching Posada manage the game tomorrow (future manager anybody?). By the way, I feel sorry for Bryan and this blog, I remember when there used to be at least 30-40 commits per post (sometimes a 100 or more)…now it seems like nobody even visits this place anymore. Does the name _chazbedlam_ ring any bells??? Well, at least I know I been watching all this time. Keep up the good work Bryan. GO YANKEES!!!
