Greetings from Yankee Stadium, where the Yankees will simultaneously try to win their 100th game and secure the American League East title. Their magic number to clinch the AL’s best record – and home field advantage throughout the playoffs – is also one. The Yankees last clinched the division against Boston in 2005, winning 8-4 on the second to last day of the season at Fenway Park.
The Yankees’ next win will mark the 19th 100-win season in franchise history, and their first since 2004 (101-61). No other franchise has more than 10 seasons of at least 100 wins (Oakland). The Yankees are seeking their 14th series sweep of 2009 and their eighth since the All-Star Break.

Too bad Posada is out of the lineup again. A guess they’re resting his stiff neck, but I’d still rather see Cervelli in there than Molina. Molina is a liability at the plate even though he might be ok defensively. Not sure he’s any better than Cervelli however. I would think Molina won’t be back with the team next year and if they need back up in the playoffs I guess he’ll be doing it, regardless of his poor offensive numbers. Going to miss Damon today. he’s one of the clutch hitters for the Yankees this year.
I’m with you re: Cervelli, oneof5.
And that Joe Morgan; what a prize! He keeps running his mouth after the Swisher call was clearly a bad one. An idiot AND a Yankee hater. Gee, what fun!
Clinching the AL East, 100 games, and a sweep of the Sux in the new House…oh, how sweet!
Well fellow bloggers we got them through another one. AL EAST Champions. Time for a Guinness!!!!!
Got to disagree with Morgan being a Yankee hater. He just didn’t want to admit to Jon Miller that he was wrong. Morgan is so much better than McCarver in terms of analysis. And Morgan loves Robbie Cano, which Yankee fans should start doing because the kid can pick it and with200 hits some of you guys got to off him. Great day—-beat the Sox, clinch AL East, 100 wins, with the old guard Pettitte and Rivera pitching well. Got to love that Teixeira as he can hit and play fabulous defense.
