8/28 – Yankees vs. White Sox

It’s difficult to believe that it took until Joe Girardi 12 minutes into his pregame press conference to discuss the story of the day, which of course was that Joba Chamberlain is going to be pitching every fifth day for the rest of the season but will be turning in a few starts of under five innings to keep his season tallies in check.

Chamberlain is already at 130 2/3 innings heading into his scheduled start Sunday vs. Chicago and, left to pitch wildly, Girardi said he’d be up in the danger zone of 180 by season’s end. The Yankees still won’t talk about where the limit is, but it seems like everyone is in agreement that it’s in the 160 neighborhood.

We can debate the Joba Rules ad nauseum, but first, a few other items to update.

Jorge Posada (bruised left ring finger) is feeling better today and will take BP, anticipating a start on Saturday. … Girardi has “all the faith in the world” that Phil Coke can still be his best left-handed option out of the bullpen, despite his recent troubles. The Yankees want to take it slow with Damaso Marte … Brett Gardner is hitting balls off a tee but it looks like a rehab assignment for Monday might have been overly ambitious. The Yankees still think he can play before the Minor League season ends.

Here are the lineups for tonight’s game at rainy Yankee Stadium. Play quick, guys. Storm’s a-comin’.

Tough luck for Mitre, gets a great start then has to leave on a liner. By the way, I don’t get how Kazmir got traded in August. Sure, he has been injured and has had a bad season, but how do you pass on a 25 year old potential left handed ace?

Joba rule my b_ _ t. If Joba get his a_ _ in shape and stop running those girls and drinking that alchol; We don’t have to worry about that crap. No matter what youdo pitchers have maybe 4 great years in their career and goods ones afetr the great ones. I.e. Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver. So why are they wasting time , either he is a relieve pitcher or a starter. Everyone knows what happens you devolpe a pitcher then he goes to become a free agent. Use him why you have him. 200 innings.

I know there’s not much love for him here but Mitre is pitching like a man today. Let’s see if he can keep it going.

Kudos to Robert Kramer for the work he does keeping fans informed of the Yankees minor league team. A lot of fans are watching the minor league teams in their respective area and are gung-ho on the players.

It is getting difficult to keep up with the Joba Rules. The latest is probably the best so far. And, please while Posada is not playing, let Joba pitch to Molina.
