Gearing up in Boston

fenway.JPGI love this sign, welcoming you to the “New” Fenway Park, built 1912 and reconstructed 1934.

Hello from Boston, after getting banged up in a cross-country travel day out of San Francisco with a pit-stop for a Nathan’s hot dog in Newark. How appealing does that sound?

The Yankees made it here in – you could only imagine – more luxurious fashion. Hopefully they got to enjoy some of the sights and sounds of an off-day Thursday, after playing their 33rd game in 34 days on Wednesday at the Oakland Coliseum.

There’s no letting up this weekend as Derek Jeter and the Yankees try to shoo the ‘other’ black cloud hovering over their season — that they still haven’t won a game yet this season at the ancient, red-bricked Fenway Park.

Consider this: the last Yankees pitcher to win a game on Yawkey Way
was Mike Mussina, who celebrated his final big league victory with a
fistful of McDonald’s French fries last Sept. 28 in the tiny, cramped
visiting clubhouse here. (If you could only smell the tunnel from the clubhouse to the playing field, you’d know how appetizing that is. Think lemon Pledge mixed with Pine-Sol and mold.)

But to their credit, this doesn’t appear to be anything like the bang-your-head-against-the-wall issue of starting the year winless in eight contests against the Red Sox.

“I think the real thing is wanting to win another series,” Joe Girardi
said. “If we do that, obviously we’re going to win a game. The big
thing was the zero in front of our names. I think that was bigger.”

Here’s how the pitching shapes up:

Aug. 21 at Boston 7:10 p.m. Penny (7-7) vs. Pettitte (9-6)
Aug. 22 at Boston 4:10 p.m. Tazawa (1-2) vs. Burnett (10-6)
Aug. 23 at Boston 8:05 p.m. Beckett (14-4) vs. Sabathia (14-7)

The Daily News says that Jeter might be the league MVP – are you kidding me? If Tex or Mauer don’t get it, it’ll be crime. Sure Jeter is having a fine year but you’ll have to consider Damon b4 you even think about Jeter!

Don’t think I am NOT a Yankee fan b/c I am 100% but what’s right is right! Jeter is a good player but he is NOT great!

Just heard that the Mets are going to release Livan Hernandez to make room for B.Wagner – not for nothing but the Yanks should pick this guy up! He’s a former WS MVP, he is kool as ice under pressure and a work horse! This will certainly solitify our 5th starter!
