Yankees get deals done before deadline
The Yankees have agreed to terms with their first two selections in the First-Year Player Draft, securing contracts with outfielder Slade Heathcott and catcher J.R. Murphy.
Heathcott receives a $2.2 million signing bonus, while Murphy is getting $1.5 million. The Yankees went over the recommended slot with both players, but after not putting Gerrit Cole into the system last year, they really didn’t have much of a choice in Heathcott’s case. The Yankees wouldn’t have been entitled to 2010 compensation if Heathcott hadn’t signed.
