8/1 – Yankees at White Sox
Happy August! Here are the updates from U.S. Cellular Field as the Yankees and White Sox get ready to play the third game of this four-game series:
A little bit of a strange lineup today, with Jerry Hairston, Jr. in left field and Cody Ransom at first base. Mark Teixeira is serving as the DH, and as he said in Spring Training, he doesn’t like to get full days off. This is about as close as Tex wants to be to getting some rest, and with Monday’s off-day, he’ll get two of the next three days with limited duty.
Alex Rodriguez will either DH or take a full day off tomorrow. Joe Girardi said he used Ransom because he wanted to get as many right-handed hitters in the lineup as possible against John Danks.
To make room for Hairston (wearing No. 17), the Yankees had to option Shelley Duncan back to Triple-A. Duncan said he was thankful for the callup and that he’ll keep working. Maybe we’ll see him in September now that he’s back on the 40-man roster.
The Yankees are shuffling their upcoming pitching, as part of the developing plan with Joba Chamberlain (and also a little bit of a reaction to last night’s three-inning start from Sergio Mitre). It now sequences:
Tuesday @ Toronto: Andy Pettitte
Wednesday @ Toronto: Sergio Mitre
Thursday vs. Boston: Joba Chamberlain
Friday vs. Boston: A.J. Burnett
Saturday vs. Boston: CC Sabathia
Sunday vs. Boston: Andy Pettitte
