8/1 – Yankees at White Sox

Happy August! Here are the updates from U.S. Cellular Field as the Yankees and White Sox get ready to play the third game of this four-game series:

A little bit of a strange lineup today, with Jerry Hairston, Jr. in left field and Cody Ransom at first base. Mark Teixeira is serving as the DH, and as he said in Spring Training, he doesn’t like to get full days off. This is about as close as Tex wants to be to getting some rest, and with Monday’s off-day, he’ll get two of the next three days with limited duty.

Alex Rodriguez will either DH or take a full day off tomorrow. Joe Girardi said he used Ransom because he wanted to get as many right-handed hitters in the lineup as possible against John Danks.

To make room for Hairston (wearing No. 17), the Yankees had to option Shelley Duncan back to Triple-A. Duncan said he was thankful for the callup and that he’ll keep working. Maybe we’ll see him in September now that he’s back on the 40-man roster.

The Yankees are shuffling their upcoming pitching, as part of the developing plan with Joba Chamberlain (and also a little bit of a reaction to last night’s three-inning start from Sergio Mitre). It now sequences:

Tuesday @ Toronto: Andy Pettitte
Wednesday @ Toronto: Sergio Mitre
Thursday vs. Boston: Joba Chamberlain
Friday vs. Boston: A.J. Burnett
Saturday vs. Boston: CC Sabathia
Sunday vs. Boston: Andy Pettitte

Matty: Since you are the only guy I know that enters a battle of wits totally unarmed, let me say this as plainly as I can. Grow up.

Character assassination is not baseball analysis, nor is it talent assessment. It is, however, midly entertaining if you remember to consider the source when reading these rants.

Matty, If I could be certain that every time I blogged here, it would upset you, I would flood this zone. Because thinking about you being upset all of the time? Well, that’s priceless!

Like

Tell me matty who is responsible for the slim pickings at the minor league level? Answer = IDIOT GM. Who kept Ian Kennedy who supposedly was major league ready instead of trading for Santana? Answer = IDIOT GM. Why isn’t the IDIOT GM held accountable for the studipity called its minor league system? As I have said before you cannot tell me that some 5th starter could not have been gotten to help this team. The Yankees IDIOT GM matty had NO clue on how to get it done. I’m with Todd E. on this one.

And Girardi was given Hinske for a reason to Friggin play why the FU*K is Ransom in there?
Girardi should be taken into Right Field and Friggin skinned alive right after Crashman. Then Levine in Left field and let the Fans stone him to Death he is another Friggin Loafer Boy who knows NOTHING about Baseball!!
Jeez really now anyone who thinks this team is going anywhere this year is NUTS! yea NUTS, How when they HAVE NOT BEAT A Good baseball team.
I guess we all can hope but that only takes us so FAR!

I’m here I just really have nothing to friggin say!!!
This team is just proving what I ahve been saying all year… They can’t play GOOD teams. Yea beat up all the Crap all you want but the better hitting, pitching teams the Yankees show their TRUE Colors. FRACKING PINK!!!!!

Crashman should be taken out into Center Field and SKINNED ALIVE!! Douchbag!! yea we all know we needed pitching and he did NOTHING! Why, well becvause he has neglected the farm system and have nobody to trade. Washburn was a NO-BRAINER but no friggin Crashman stays on the Crapper reading Boys Life instead of doing his friggin job.

Coke’s performance today was an absolute disgrace.

Everyday players on this club recognize there is not enough pitching to get this team through the playoffs. They also recognize that the GM is full of *HIT and has no intention of winning with the pitching he has put together.

Like

Two words describe today’s performance, IT SUCKED!!!!

I hear ya, 1 of 5. This team can’t possibly face the Sux in the Bronx next weekend with any confidence. I already see myself in anybody-but-the-Sux playoff mode. Jeez…

Mantle–Lame is too soft for what this team has done in this series. This is more than lame. This couldn’t get any worse. Do you know what they do with lame horses? They take them out and shoot them and put them out of their misery.

Now 13-4. Please get this debacle over with. I’m not watching any more of this crap. This is the last straw. If they continue to use guys like Coke and Mitre we might as well give the Red Sox first place and the World Series. Totally embarrassing. The whole organization from the owners down to the players should be hanging their heads in shame after this series. The White Sox are just not that good. And in spite of our high salary budget neither are the Yankees unfortunately. Big spending does not necessarily a winner make. Somebody has got to stop the bleeding and soon or we’re in trouble again.

Girardi wanted more right handed hitters in the lineup today? Well Ransom is not a hitter, it’s obvious he can’t hit major league pitching. And his defense is average to poor. Why did they send Ramiro Pena down and replace him with this guy?
Phil Coke has never been stellar, and is fading fast.
I’m also surprised that the Yanks did not get a starter by the deadline. Mitre is not the answer, no track record, a pitcher who will wear out the pen by never going more than 5 innings.
I’m not a Joe Girardi fan, hopefully he won’t cost the Yanks a chance at a pennant.

So lame.

This Yankee team is looking really sad in this series. What is wrong with them. There’s mistakes all over the place. The pitching is terrible. We’re not hitting with runners on base. We are just playing bad ball right now. I sure hope this doesn’t continue. How are we going to do against the Red Sox playing like this? Now it’s 11-4. This is a big friggin joke. Painful and embarrassing. Right now I’m not proud to be a Yankees fan.

If this team doesn’t make the playoffs, both Girardi and Cashman deserve to lose their jobs. Inserting a non-fielding/non-hitting Ransom in the lineup on a frequent basis is grounds for termination. Seriously. Not in and of itself, but because of what it represents: a lack of common sense.
– Ex 1: You’re gonna sit a productive player like Hinske in favor of Ransom, because the former is a lefty like the opposing pitcher? That matchup doesn’t mean squat since Ransom couldn’t hit a coconut with an ironing board! Take your chances w/the lefty who can hit–and who has 5 HR in 20 AB–as opposed to the interstate hitting righty. Ugh.
– Ex 2: Why bring in Aceves or whomever in the 8th inn, in a 1 or 2 run game to face the heart of the opposing team, instead of your best reliever, the best in MLB history? Isn’t that the crucial part of the game? Why give the big responsibility to someone else and then let Mo face the bottom of the order in the 9th?

Let’s just start preparing ourselves for a lack of postseason play in The Bronx. Willie Randolph in 2010? Tony Peña?

Bad teams give you roller coaster rides. Wonder how mellow Girardi will be with the press tonight. Maybe the NY/NJ press ought to get off its ***** and tell Girardi his team is going NOWHERE and he’ll be back in the TV booth next year. I only hope he takes the IDIOT GM with him.

Typical Yankees bull pen melt down by Phil Coke. How long is the Yankees management going to wait for these young guys to shape up? They’re way over their heads. Do we have to face perfect game Buerle tomorrow? If we can’t win a game with the guys who have been pitching so far how can we possibly win against Buerle? Man a sweep to the White Sox? We’re up against a team that is desperate in the Central division to catch the Tigers. The Yankees were 3 1/2 games ahead of the Sox going into this series and they are playing like it. No intensity, no desperation, no guts, no grit. Look at Melky. He was 3-0 and stood there while Thornton threw three pitches past him. Wonderful. Now 9-3. I’m not sure what’s wrong with Posada. He must need a few games off. He’s making stupid mistakes defensively. He just made another one for another run. He isn’t hitting. He hits into too many DPs. I’d rather have Molina in there if Posada isn’t going to do anything.

How many *amn times is Coke the Joke going to be brought in? And this is the only lefty this IDIOT GM could get? Oh wait Damasco is on his way, another JOKE!!! Again this IDIOT GM could NOT judge talent if it was handed to him. I agree with you Mantle but the Stein kids gave the IDIOT GM a 3 year contract for FAILURE. Tells you how smart they are. For Gods Sake King George come back NOW!!!

Bruney has been absolute terrible lately. Mantle there is no explanation for it. Let’s face it folks this team goes nowhere as long as it has the likes of Girardi & the IDIOT GM calling the shots. At the end of the year, if they don’t make the playoffs, it will be Girardi’s head. That will NOT solve the woes of this franchise. As long as Crashman is there they will NOT win a *amn thing.

How many time can this offense put runners in scoring position with one out an score only single runs?

The richest sports franchise in the world passed on a (much needed) starting pitcher over a measly $650K?! I’d love to hear Cashman explain that one.
Oh, and why in heaven’s name would you send Shelley Duncan back down to make room for Cody Ransom??!! I thought the acquisition of Jerry Hairston Jr meant the useless Ransom would finally get the boot. But no…there he is being his rally-killing-not-even-mediocre self again. I am SICK and TIRED of this nonsense. RELEASE CODY RANSOM NOW!!!

ol hickory in Jorge’s defense it was a great play by Quentin. He pretended to be catching the ball & Posada hesitated, thus thrown out. I’m not sure there is collusion going on with other GM’s I just think the IDIOT GM the Yankees have doesn’t know how to get a trade done. There is NO way KC asked for Hughes or Joba for Bannister. The press in the midwest reported that the Yankees wanted the Royals to pay $650 thousand of his salary. The Yankees refused and as far as I am concerned that refusal might cost them in the long run. Gehrig in my opinion signing Igawa, Pavano and others should have gotten this IDIOT GM FIRED. Instead he got rewarded with a 3 year deal. Again failure gets rewarded in the NY Yankee world. Tell me think the IDIOT coulde beg Mussina to come out of retirement????

I can’t understand it, I’m in total agreement with you guys, WHAT IN HELL IS RANSOM DOING IN A MAJOR LEAGUE UNIFORM? What a waste!.. I’m trying to figure out why we could not get a pitcher in a trade, Cash said all the GM’s were asking for Joba and Phil. But they accepted much less from them. Is there collusion among other GM’s to avoid trading with the Yanks? I wonder!!.
I don’t know about you but I don’t think were getting our monies worth out of CC and AJ. Joba is heating up but Andy and this Mitre are not the answer to the needs for a pennant race. Our only hope is to pick up more help from the waiver wire.. I didn’t see the play at 3rd did Jorge have lead in his shoes, or was he forced to hold up?

Like

The brand new excuse is that “there is no budget flexibility”; the Steinbrenners told Cashman the money overflow was done until next postseason…Well, maybe Cashman could have asked a loan to Mr. Igawa, already in his third season as probably the most expensive Triple A player ever…

Decisions like Igawa, make a huge impact (in his case negative) and help the team become this strange mix of superstars and the Ransoms, Veras, Tomkos and Bruneys of this world, who together become by far the most expensive group of underperformers when playing against other good teams.

Any proof? 8 years and counting since the last WS…

Notice the salaries given by Cashman to guys like Igawa, Marte (who got two homers in one inning the other night in Scranton), Nady, or the oldie Matsui, then you compare with other teams´decisions and can´t help noticing the great bargain made by the Angels hiring Abreu for peanuts, where he is having one great season so far…(321, 75 RBIs, lots of runs, etc…) That is the kind of decision that tells the difference between a good and a bad GM…And the Yankees, since 2001, is plagued by such bad decisions almost every year…

One lucky Yankee in this Cashman era? Joe Torre, who could leave, and now manages one of the best teams in baseball, the Dodgers…Meanwhile the Yankees hired the perfect match for Cashman -the surreal and rookie-sh Girardi…who will bring again next Tuesday Mitre to face Toronto, to be eaten alive by the Blue Jays batters..

I can answer your last question oneof5. The answer is that Crashman is an IDIOT GM.

Like

Besides Wang matty who is down with injuries? I mean wasn’t it the IDIOT GM who was in love with Ian Kennedy and would not trade him as part of the Santana trade? You missed the point completely, the farm system is a joke primarily because the IDIOT GM has not got a clue on how to build a team. You CANNOT have enough arms, PERIOD and this IDIOT does NOT get that. Bases loaded and no outs and only again one run. Posada is slower then Yogi Berra. Again why the *ELL is Ransom on this roster, let alone playing 1st base, let alone batting in the 6th with two guys on? Is Girardi a family friend or what?

Like

Tell me someone please, why Cody Ransom is playing today? 2 strikeouts and the last one with two men on base. Bases loaded with no outs and the Yankees only get one run? Come on. What kind of ridiculous playing is this? How can a team who seems to be so hot go so cold against a team like the White Sox? No Matsui. No Damon. Now Bruney pitching. Is this a throw-away game? I figured the Yankees couldn’t handle success very long being 3 1/2 games up on the Sox. The bubble had to burst. We’re back to where we were in the way we’re playing before the hot streak. I can’t believe that Girardi is going to pitch Mitre in Toronto after his horrendous last start.

Come on. Get serious. Why is Ransom playing 1st base instead of Hinske if they’re trying to give Tex a break? Because he bats right? So what? Men at the corners and he swings like a rusty gate. He’s not ready for the bigs but Girardi and Cashman don’t seem to realize it. What does it take? AJ is not really AJ today unfortunately. Why do the Yankees seem to fall apart against some of these good hitting teams? Any team named the Sox they can’t beat or the Angels. They seem to play tentative and up tight, make stupid mistakes, and get hit all over the field. I can see the Yankees getting swept in this series and falling behind the Red Sox having been 3 1/2 games ahead. Totally ridiculous. And with no legitimate 5th starter down the stretch we’re in serious trouble. Everyone else who is a contender made major trades. The Yankees get a utility player and no starter because supposedly the price was too high. What is too high with prospects when you are one good starter away from probably getting to the World Series? Where did all the confidence and swagger go that the Yankees played with over the past 15 games? Mitre is going to pitch the second game against the Blue Jays next week? You’ve got to be kidding. And I have tickets to that game here in Toronto. Put Hughes into the rotation. There’s got to be someone better than Mitre in the system. We could have had Washburn pitching if Cashman could have pulled it off. Why can other teams pull off these trades and Cashman can’t?

To matty:

You are an ignorant *ss, and it’s obvious that you have absolutely no idea what a “Whiner” is. Robert Kramer, who I have met recently, is a true Yankee fan, unlike you. You my friend, are a “know nothing” wimper who obviously believes that louder and longer is better.

Grow up, you pompous son of a *itch. Stop putting everyone down, and take a good look at yourself. Unfortunately for you, but thankful for the rest of us, the world does not rotate around you.

We’ll all do better with a lot less of your inane player evaluation, and your insulting comments about the differences between real Yankee fans and you.

Why in the world is Swisher an everyday player? As a lifetime 240 hitter, he is a bench player, and not a great one at that. And his offense just does not overide his defense, or in actuality, his complete lack of it.

I really don’t care about whatever offense he gives us in terms of the long ball because we have guys, like the recently added Hinske, who are much better at that than Swisher. The old professor, Casey Stengel, used to say about guys like Swisher: Yeah, he knocks in 4, and he gives up 5!

You don’t need to score 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or more runs per game, just 1 more than your opponenetPlay the best defense, and it’s becomes a hell of a lot easier to score just 1 more run than your opponent.

Like

Mitre is scheduled to pitch vs. the Jays in game two next week. Are you kidding me? Why? Oh I forgot our manager is on record saying the Yankees have no other options. Why is that IDIOT GM? Could it be that there are NO pitching prospects down there and NO vets that you have signed? And instead of making a deadline trade for a 5th starter you in your infamous wisdom picked up a utility infielder/outfielder. And Yankee fans wonder why this team has not won a WS Championship since 2000? It starts with the GM and this team’s is a CLUELESS IDIOT!!!!

Like

Good job Tex, 2 out 2 run single. Why the *ELL is Ransom playing 1st and Swisher batting 2nd? What is Girardi’s love affair for Ransom? How many HR’s does Hinske have to hit Girardi?

I suppose AJ was due for a poor outing with the way he’s been pitching lately, but did he have to do it on national television when they needed him to play stopper?

Like

Precisely another reason why you have to have an efficient and winning #4 & #5 starters. 1-3 are NOT going to have it every game, as evident by todays game. I still think yesterday’s non trade for a 5th starter has had an impact on this squad. Players are not stupid and they realize when a GM is putting together a winning combination and this GM hasn’t shown that ability. Down 6-0 already and to another quality ballclub.
