3 scrubs? Not exactly! A triple A third baseman to replace Chavez, a triple A pitcher, and a double A outfielder. A nice haul for Beane for a player he couldn’t sign. And the Cards get a division crown, if not more, and at least some high picks for 2010.

So another team not named the New York Yankees with World Series aspirations (and a solid possibility at making it there) makes a move today, as the Cardinals trade for Matt Holliday. He should provide tons of insurance for Pujols, and will be one of the top 3/4 combos in baseball (along with Tex/Arod). Maybe with the acquisition of Holliday, the Cardinals will start shopping 1 of their extra OFers now (I’d imagine Ankiel as the best choice seeing as his contract is up after this season). Regardless of that fact, I think that was a solid move for both the Cardinals and the A’s. What is Mr. Cashman working on? With the issues that this team is facing, he almost HAS to make a deal.

Matt Holliday to St Lou for 3 scrubs. Don’t the Yanks have a boat-loads of scrubs?

Bryan, I like your blog quite a bit. Needless to say, it’s nice to have the Yankees back this year as I think it’s generally better for baseball when they’re good. When it comes to playoff time, you guys are going to be very, very hard to stop. I write an Angel blog, been a die hard fan all my life. If you can, take a read and let me know what you think? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, hope we meet in the playoffs!

Good game all around, CC was solid and gave our hitters chance to score and win the game. Again, the more I see Hinske playing, the more I’m convinced that he should be playingmore that Ransom and now maybe Swisher.

As long as CC keeps battling and winning these alright games, it’ll be fine until he reaches his stride. I still think that CC has yet to show us his best stuff, and once he finds that gear, it’s going to be a fun ride. CC and AJ are going to be such a huge force through the end of the season, and beyond. The Yankees need to make a move for a solid SP (Erik Bedard possibly) that won’t cost them a HUGE amount (as would Roy Halladay). Bedard is solid and relatively cheap, and will be a FA after this season. I’m sure he’d get a sweet return, but it wouldn’t be the total pillage that Doc would bring. Watch out for the Yankees if they can land a legit #3 SP, oh boy! Any position player that’s acquired (if any) would most likely not be a huge name (Matt Holliday), but rather another piece to help the bench out (a replacement for Cody Ransom is almost a must by now).

Where was everyone: at the Stadium or early to bed?
In any event, another tight game: once again, CC was not stellar but got the job done; the offense was solid w/RISP. I was torn btwn wishing good luck on the local kid–A’s starter and NJ native Mazzaro–and the Yankees winning, of course. But the kid showed off some electric stuff and struck out 6. In the end, the Yankees won, so it was good on both ends. Hopefully they can win this series and get some distance btwn them and the Sux, before they come to the Stadium in a few weeks.
