I want to start off my post first off by saying a hard-fought victory was earned by the Yankees today. I actually got to watch the game, and after the 2nd inning I thought the bombers were going to be in trouble, especially with CC already at 50+ pitches and Verlander looking like he was on his game. However, CC battled for another 5 innings and was able to get the win.
Now the real reason I wanted to post tonight was because I was just catching up on some reading over at MLBTradeRumors.com, and saw this post: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/07/odds-ends-yankees-marquis-washburn.html .. Someone please tell me that Mr. Cashman is just pulling everybody’s legs here. He said “Right now I don’t feel like we need a guy” (in reference to the vacant spot on the starting rotation) because they are going to go internally and see how that works. Well going internally means going with Sergio Mitre…. THEY REALLY DON’T NEED ANOTHER STARTER!???!??!?!?!?! ARE U SERIOUS MR. CASHMAN!? I think he needs to pull his head out and start seriously looking for someone, because anybody out there is better than Sergio Mitre…..

Oh, and Cone thru out the first pitch on the 10th anniversary of his perfect game. Sweet!

Was in the Bronx today; beautiful day for a game. Tigers had quite a few chances to score but didn’t help Verlander who pitched a great game. It wasn’t pretty for CC but he obviously got thru it. Yankees won series, Sux lost to the Jays, and my winning streak at the House (new and old) remains intact. Can’t complain.

Unless there is a setback, there is plenty of time for a full rehab in the minors for Wang. Since anything can happen, a setback might cause the end of the Minor League Seasons to impact the rehab. In any case, I don’t see him pitching for NY until he is fully ready to start.

Like

This time, I hope that Yanks won’t rush Wang. I’d say keep him at Scranton to get back into his old form, and when he’s ready, we’ll call him up. Or if we need help in the bullpen, then put Wang in there. He’ll eventually would be able to throw 3 innings…say Joba goes 4 innings, then Wang for 3, then put Aceves in for 7th inning, then Hughes for 8th, then Mo! Seems like a good plan to me.
Today’s win is an important one cause the Sux lost! I was worrying about CC at the beginning, but pitched a strong game and the bullpen finished off. However, I hope that Girardi will wake up and use Hinske more often, and Swisher needs some time on the bench now…
Good luck to Joba tomorrow, all I want from him is to at least keep the game close!

Wang’s rehab was cut short because of bullpen overuse. Can’t see that happening again or any need to have him do anything but start!

Bryan,
Any word yet on when Wang will start throwing again?
If we can get him back near his old self and Joba comes around we’ll go a lot further!

Does anyone else see Swisher as a better choice defensively in RF over Hinske? That was our rationale for letting Abreu walk (besides the $, ha!) I’m anxious to see what Hinske can do at 3B.

Here is an excellent blog on the theory of innings pitched by Joba. It gives thought to his lack of stamina.

The writer outlines the number of innings pitched by Joba in college and in the minors v. Phil and others.

Good theory. Please read. Thanks

Didn’t see the game, but by all accounts it was an exciting game. Great for CC to beat Verlander. And I am so tired of the comparison between Joba and Phil. Where were the Philster’s in 07 and 08?? Joba needs the same chances to to get himself “right” as Phil was given over the past 2 seasons. How many years in the minors did Phil pitch?

Not to downgrade Phil’s abilities, just saying –Give Joba the same chances to re-group. Fortunately, for Phil he was given ample time in the minors and again because of pitcher shortage, Joba has to do his in the majors. Can anyone see that difference?

When will Girardi see that Swisher is not the answer. This is the start lof the 2nd half. He should be giving Hinske a chance to prove himself.

CC again proved what a horse he is. Let’s let him pitch every fourth game!! Kidding of course.

Joba needs a big game tomorrow (and some offense – the big bats seems to set when he is pitching) to keep the team momentum going. GO jOBA – GO YANKEES.

ARod stepped up big in the 7th today. Big HR. CC pitched in and out of trouble today but made big pitches when he had.to. Great play by Jeter today in the 9th on Inge’s grounder. All in all a big win and with the Jays win leaves them two out of the lead. keep winning, come on Joba go after them tomorrow. Last, I don’t play golf but as a 50 plus year old I’m cheering for Tom Watson in the British Open tomorrow.

The Jays are leading the Sox 6-2 in the 7th. This is a good chance for the Yankees to close the gap between themselves and the Sox to 2 games. Really important game. CC has done his job. Obviously finished now with 114 pitches. Hopefully the bull pen can do the job. Unfortunately Hughes pitched two strong innings last night so might not be called on today. Not as sure about the other relievers. When Verlander comes out hopefully the Yanks can get some hits off the bull pen. The big guys we’re paying so much money to need to step up, especially ARod. Where’s Hinske again? Why Swisher and not Hinske? Go Yanks!!
