See you in St. Louis

Back to back, the Yankees have suffered probably their two toughest losses of the season at Angel Stadium, as both Joba Chamberlain and Andy Pettitte couldn’t make it out of the fifth inning and early leads went to waste while the bullpen slogged through.

They’ll still get a chance at a winning road trip this afternoon, needing plenty of innings from CC Sabathia as the Yankees and Angels wrap up this three-game set and head into the All-Star Break.

Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Mark Teixeira are on their way to St. Louis, while the rest of the Yankees will scatter to the winds and reconvene in New York to open a homestand on Friday.

I’m bidding farewell to Southern California this morning ahead of those guys, having spent the night at an airport hotel and now writing to you from Gate 60 at LAX … set to fly to St. Louis — with a brief detour to Houston. This will be my third consecutive All-Star Game (though you couldn’t beat the commute last year), and my first trip to St. Louis overall.

All I really know about St. Louis is that Chevy Chase drove through it really quickly in Vacation (“Hey, kids, you noticing all this blight?”), there’s a beautiful Gateway Arch I’ve only seen on television and I might have sampled an Anheuser-Busch product or two in my past. Someone posted on Twitter alternating views that I should try/avoid fried ravioli. Thinking I’ll opt to avoid.

I’m really looking forward to seeing Busch Stadium and this year’s game should be a good one. Blog at you from the Midsummer Classic.

Another thing, who cares if a-ROD breaks the HR record as a Yankee? It’ll be tainted like Bonds’. I want championships not personal achievements & so should this loser ownership!

Like

They can’t beat the Sacks nor the Angels. Forget the World Series & better yet, why bother w/ the playoffs? Trade a-ROD while he has some worth & rebuild. Hinske can start @ 3rd. Some of you guys love Joba, I’m no longer impressed. Petitte is toast & so is our team.

oneof5 Totally agree with your take. However, when the *ELL has the IDIOT GM ever made a wise decision or listened to the fans? They’ll keep this team intact rather than admit that this team needs additions and better decisions. Right now this team is looking at the wild card with a hope and a prayer that they don’t play the Angels in the first round. *ELL this team couldn’t win a game against the Angels with their best two everyday players on the DL (Vald and Torrii).

yesterday we got 8 runs but lost 14-8. Today pitching keeps it to 5 runs but we can only muster 4 runs. Five home runs last night. Nothing today. We can’t seem to get the pitching and hitting together in the one game against a team like the Halos and the Sox. Now we go into the All Star game on a low, behind the Sox by 3 games. We started the series tied with first place and finish 3 games behind. Couldn’t win even one game in the series! Could use the excuse that the Halos had the day off before their series and came in fresh and the Yankees came off an emotional series with the Twins sweeping them. So there might have been a let down. But really no excuse. Being paid millions of dollars these guys have the learn to play every day and produce. They can’t take days off. ARod and Tex didn’t come through. Bases loaded and didn’t bring the runners home. No excuse. Will there be any changes during this break in the schedule or will we end up with more of the same after the All star break? Most of us are not too optimistic that important changes will be made either with coaching or with players. We’re not going to get to the world series if we go with what we have. it won’t work on a consistent basis and the Sox are too good and so are the Halos even if the Yankees make it into the playoffs as a wild card team. Hopefully someone in the organization is listening to the fans and will get involved in making some improvements to this club now while they have a chance to make a run to the playoffs.

This game turned on Tex and ARod’s inability to drive in runs with people in scoring position. The late inning K by Tex and DP by ARod are inexcuseable. Sorry folks this is why these two are paid the big $$$, to knock in runs late in BIG games. They totally failed to do their job today, end of story. Again it is apparent to me and many on this blog that the Yankees NEED another starter. Crashman has 19 days to get it done. Guarantee the IDIOT GM does nothing!

This is why the issue of the starting rotation needs to be addressed; right now the Yankees have a 2-man rotation (CC and AJ) and when one of those has a bad outing…jeez.

Very disappointing to see high profile free agents (once again) underperforming for this team (with generous contracts). Can’t blame the G.M.! Disappointing to see our two top pitching prospects fail. Let’s get Hughsey back in the rotation.

Once again, it is with great disappointment to see highly regarded free agents to sign on with very generous contracts and under achieve in recent years. I could start the list, (which includes present players in the lineup), but you can easily figure it out. The next disappointment are our two bright pitching prospects Hughes and Joba (Joba even more so), but why not give Hughsey another chance back in the rotation? Someone has to pick up the slack, and it is apparent the Yanks will not make the playoffs if they cannot be competitive against first division clubs. Let’s hope Hughes finds himself as a starter and Joba gets his control. Otherwise, it will be a most disappointing season, culminating with a coaching and general manager shake-up. Mark, Seattle.

Will it end or will it CONTINUE!!
With Crashman and Girardi WHO KNOWS!!

This is an important game for the Yankees. They can either go into the all star break 1 game behind the Sox or 2 maximum or they can get behind 3 games which is a big hole to climb out of as has been the case in the past. They need CC to come up with a big game and go into the 7th inning at least and they need lots of offence to keep pace with this powerfully offensive halos team. Yanks have to cut down on the mistakes on the bases and errors and dumb decisions by manager and coaches. If CC is not getting it done Girardi needs to get him out before they get so far behind they can’t hope to catch up. There is a curse beginning to develop with this team as well as the Sox that they need to break quickly. Can’t afford to get swept. The Sox keep winning.

Totally agree with your accessment sper33. However, I have absolutely ZERO belief that our team’s IDIOT GM has any clue as to what is needed on this club or how to fix what is needed.

Like

Hopefully this will be a tireless All-Star weekend for Mr. Cashman. He has some huge holes to fill on this club, hopefully he can either make some moves, or lay the foundation for some moves to improve this team. I also hope that Girardi starts using Hinske A LOT more. He’s had 2 great games (offensively and defensively) and if that doesn’t show that he should be played more, well then Girardi should be fired today.
