Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Greetings from a hotel room in California, where I’ve settled in a day or so in advance of the Yankees and await their arrival for a three-game weekend series against the Angels.
Their set – the Yankees’ final visit to the Metrodome – wraps up today as the Bombers look for win No. 13 in their last 15 contests. I actually always liked the Metrodome; sure, it wasn’t the most current facility, and yes, it was turf under that horrible white roof which could interfere with plays.
But from an observers’ perspective, it was not a bad place to watch a game at all. Plus there was a really great barbecue stand outside the Stadium. I hope they move that to the new place next season.
Last night, it was A.J. Burnett taking grip of the game and forcing the Yankees to a 4-3 victory. Alfredo Aceves gets the ball today in a spot start against Francisco Liriano.
Here are the pitching matchups for the weekend:
Friday, July 10 10:05 PM ET
Joba Chamberlain, RHP (4-2, 4.04) @ Joe Saunders, LHP (8-5, 4.44)
Saturday, July 11 4:10 PM ET
Andy Pettitte, LHP (8-4, 4.53) @ Jered Weaver, RHP (9-3, 3.15)
Sunday, July 12 3:35 PM ET
CC Sabathia, LHP (8-5, 3.70) @ John Lackey, RHP (3-4, 5.18)
