Plenty of room at the Hotel California

the-eagles-hotel-california.jpg(Yes, I know you’re going to have that song stuck in your head the rest of the day.)

Greetings from a hotel room in California, where I’ve settled in a day or so in advance of the Yankees and await their arrival for a three-game weekend series against the Angels.

Their set – the Yankees’ final visit to the Metrodome – wraps up today as the Bombers look for win No. 13 in their last 15 contests. I actually always liked the Metrodome; sure, it wasn’t the most current facility, and yes, it was turf under that horrible white roof which could interfere with plays.

But from an observers’ perspective, it was not a bad place to watch a game at all. Plus there was a really great barbecue stand outside the Stadium. I hope they move that to the new place next season.

Last night, it was A.J. Burnett taking grip of the game and forcing the Yankees to a 4-3 victory. Alfredo Aceves gets the ball today in a spot start against Francisco Liriano.

Here are the pitching matchups for the weekend:

Friday, July 10 10:05 PM ET
Joba Chamberlain, RHP (4-2, 4.04) @ Joe Saunders, LHP (8-5, 4.44)

Saturday, July 11 4:10 PM ET

Andy Pettitte, LHP (8-4, 4.53) @ Jered Weaver, RHP (9-3, 3.15)

Sunday, July 12  3:35 PM ET
CC Sabathia, LHP (8-5, 3.70) @ John Lackey, RHP (3-4, 5.18)

Yankees should have got Santana and we woould have won another championship. We need to sign Halladay or lose to Red Sox again. A good GM not Cashman will balance needs and the farm system. Keeping Hughes was smart but you can’t count on young pitchers until they mature. Kennedy and some others can go. I say trade Arod he is a curse. We also missed on Torre Hunter! I would get rid of Johnny Damon. Also put Joba back in the pen!!! I like CC, Andy, AJ, and Roy for the playoffs!

Mantle you are right in your comparsion with Santana and Juan, you can throw in Gaylord Perry one of the most bad luck pitcher in history.

Consensus on this site is that Ransom is not worthy of being on the Yankee’s. How do we convince management? We need to rid the Yanks of the dead wood. Sweeping the Twins was great, Now we need to take the series with our nemesis The Angels. It was good to hear Tex finally hit one after about 95 ABs w/o a bomb. We need him and Arod to step it up after the AS break. My big question again is WHY isn’t Joe using Hinske, He did very well in his only apperance, why not use him more. He should have been at 3rd today instead of you know who… If we can’t count on Wang and Andy, Another arm is going to be needed soon..

Agreed, Matt (re: “win now”). BUT Santana is becoming the modern day Juan Marichal: frequently losing 1-0 and 2-1 games due to his team’s lack of offense. Can’t blame him for that. Where we don’t agree is on the Johan-A-Rod comparison. #13 may not do much in the post-season, but he gets you there.

I think the Yankees should try to trade for Holliday. I would not trade Jackson or any other promising outfielder. Jackson is a Torri Hunter type player. Maybe Hughes or Joba and Cervilli and a top rated minor league player. As much as Andy have done for the yankees, he will bog down in August to Oct. not because he is not a good pitcher but he has thrown a lot of innings under pressure for the Yanks during his career. Wang is done. Don’t count on him. Pena can be included in the trade, decent glove, zero bat. CC, AJ and Doc, that will give us a championship. The weakess spots on the Yankee roster is the outfield defense. Please get Damon out the outfield before he kill himself with a ball hitting him in the head.

Ransome needs to go to AAA, Hinske can play 3rd.

Yanks are playing great, stick with the young pitchers! Girardi really stretched the bullpen out today.

Agree with Ransom sentiments, why is Cody Ransom with this team? Terrible glove, no hit despite the rbis today. Bring back Ramiro Pena!!

Does anyone know why Ransome continues to play at 3rd. Hinske should have played today. I am glad they won and swept the series. Hinske can play 4 positions at the major league level, why not play him?

Hughes looks alot stronger! His body looks thicker! He has mature now! It takes young pitchers awhile to pan out. Yankees did good to hold on to Hughes.

Hi, Bryan …

Enjoy your early visit to California !!!
.
The Yankees are playing very well right now; hopefully, they will be in first place by the All-Star break !!! … If the Yanks can take at least two of three games against the Angels, that will be a great way to end the first half of this season !!!
.
How about an update profile post on Bobby Abreu ? … I still miss Abreu; and, still feel it was a major mistake for the Yankees, not re-signing Abreu !!! … In my view, Bobby Abreu would have added a lot of production in the middle of the Yankees batting order this season !!! … But, it seems like he has adjusted very well to playing for the Angels; just like Joe Torre, Don Mattingly, and Larry Bowa have adjusted to being part of the Dodgers organization !!!
.
Anyway, enjoy the game today, Bryan !!! … I look forward to your posts on the Angels series !!!
.
“Go Yankees” !!!
