Time for a break?

arod.jpgAlex Rodriguez is in a 1-for-23 skid that has dropped his batting average to .207, dangerously close to the Mendoza line, and is batting .143 (9-for-63) this month.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said yesterday that they plan to discuss giving Rodriguez a day off during the Braves series, which certainly does not seem to be the worst idea. That hints that A-Rod would play through the weekend against the Mets, and though Girardi thought he had some better swings last night, obviously he is continuing to fight his fatigue issues.

“I’ve got to take it one day at a time,” Rodriguez said. “I certainly don’t think it’s going to be a bad year. I think I’m going to do a lot of good things to help the team. When things aren’t going well, you’ve got to keep working hard and keep hustling.”

Girardi said that A-Rod’s history indicates that he will perform better than this, but Rodriguez has never also had to deal with playing through a hip condition that seems like it will require another surgical procedure after the season. At this point, the Yankees will have to try and manage what they can get out of Rodriguez — whatever it may be.

“I have complete certainty that I’m going to do a fine job this year for our team,” Rodriguez said.

See Todd E. that’s the problem, why we care so much about his personal life?
If goes out with a young blond and stays late hitting on her what’s wrong with that? Wouldn’t you do the same? I would. You don’t like the guy well is OK; I don’t like Jeter and I still think he is a heck of a baseball player. Alex is not a role model we know that fact but hell, there are a bunch of other players who do the same with the only difference that they don’t play in the big market New York. Is true he is struggling lately 1-25 and that had a negative effect in the line up and Tex is not getting the fastballs he likes to pull out of the park and teams prefer to take their chances with the struggling A-Rod. But guess what, he came clutch yesterday and make Cox look like a fool walking Tex to challenge Alex. His hit in Boston was big, his walk off was big, and I truly believe that we haven’t won a WS not due to his personal lack of production in the post season but to the lack of performance in pitching and hitting of the entire team. The guy’s time would come and he would be a post season MVP and all that, we just need to be patience. I tell you what I see for A-Rod this season; he is caring more about helping the team than is caring about his stats. We maybe won’t see him kick off a cooler or gum less when he hits into 2play or strike out but I won’t see Jeter do it either so I don’t care about that. Jeter had failed in clutch big time in the last couple of series and we don’t worry because he will pick it up he always has. Mattingly was a great player and he couldn’t win a WS on his own, we need a team, that plays a s team.
Let’s all have a little faith that our ship to October has sailed. Go Yankees.

Maybe it’s time for Posada to DH or pinch hit and let Cervelli be the go to guy every game. He will probably be the one to replace Posada anyway. He hits a homer tonight and last night Posada gets the golden sombrero.

Watch Joba get rattled. When he gives up a homer or a hit he starts pressing and then the opposition knocks him around. I’d say 5 innings and he’s done.

hey levelboss, that would mean hitting with some “pressure” on them……NOT gonna happen

Swisher is another useless hitter and not that good defensively either. Alright to start the odd game and pinch hit but not start every game in the outfield. When Nady comes back after being out for so long how is he going to fit in? So much expectation for this lineup at the beginning of the season but again they’ve been inconsistent, winning, losing and heading again toward 500 ball which is probably where they should be with this team and manager and where they’ll probably end up. They haven’t got what it takes to overtake Boston or keep ahead of the Blue Jays.

I see where the creator of this MESS Brian Crashman “unexpectant” visited the team. Maybe someone needs to hit him with a bat, after all they are NOT hitting tonite. I hope they get no-hitted maybe then Long will get fired, follwed by Eiland, Girardi and Dr. Frankenstein himself, Crashman.

Guess who else grounded out? Yes, ARod. Surprising? I think not. This offence has totally gone south in the last 9 games and the couple of games they won really were fluky. We gained all that ground on the Jays and the Sox and now giving it all away again. Sox winning. Jays winning.

Joba is keeping the game really close (so far), but we MUST score! Braves are already into their bullpen, and we can use this to gain advantage to score some runs.

What do you know? Jeter hits another ground out? How many is that in his last 5 or 6 games? Ground outs and double plays? His hitting has gone south lately as well.

I find it funny that other than Swisher’s fly out, Joba’s line drive has been the hardest hit ball.

Like

Give Joba some credit…if you can’t out-pitch the other team’s guy you can always try to take their head off with a line-drive

Like

Joba isn’t pitching too bad right now, but he has to stop trying to paint the corners so much. He needs to trust his stuff and attack the hitters a little more, to keep his pitch count down.

Veras has been picked up by another team. He certainly didn’t help the Yankees cause in the bull pen but watch how he does on another team. Away from the pressure of New York he’ll probably do well, or not! Time will tell. Anyway, he wore out his welcome in New York with the Yankees fans.

I find it interesting that every interleague game the Yankees complain that they have never seen the opposition pitcher which has translated into too many losses and too few hits. And yet other American League teams like Boston and Toronto are killing the NL teams and they wouldn’t have seen their pitchers either. Poor excuse. By the way the Jays are leading Cincinnati 5-0 in the first inning.

yanksfor27 – it is a team game granted and we can’t blame it all on ARod and for a while when he came back he made Tex a better hitter because they couldn’t pitch around Tex. Now that ARod is in a slump Tex hasn’t been able to get the hits he was getting either, so ARod’s performance not only affects him but Tex’s production as well. ARod deserves whatever he gets because of the millions he is being paid and because of his antics away from the ball field, his dalliances with Madonna, his divorce, his reputed dates with Kate Hudson, the book written about him with the expose, his steroids, the lies and cover up connected with all that. He’s brought it all on himself and he’s allowed it to affect him on the field and in the clubhouse. Also his casual and arrogant demeanor on the field when he strikes out or hits into a double play or whatever, chewing away on his bubble gume and looking up at the screen and with that cocky look on his face that gives people the impression that he doesn’t really care. I’m sure he does but he needs to kick the water cooler over once in a while when he’s mad at himself and look like he cares more about his performance on the field. His mechanics are out of whack whether it has to do with his hip or whatever. He’s not going to get it right by staying up with the big team. He needs to go down to the minors for several games to work on the mechanics or sit out a couple of weeks and work on his mechanics. Plus I think a lot of his problem is mental/psychological. He’s lost confidence in himself and he’s hurting the team in a big way!

The problem is we’re seeing the real A-Rod, one that needs steroids to compete.

One thing I thought Girardi would bring is lineup manipulation based on performances against various pitchers and teams. A-Rod should certainly be out of the four slot and maybe experimenting with a lighter bat. Or maybe a tack hidden in his britches would do the trick?

I don’t know why every bad thing that goes on with the Yankees we have to blame A-Rod. It is obvious that he is having health issues and is not recovered from his hip as the doctors said he would. The guy is only one, and even if he was batting 500 its just one player not and entire team, we need to play as a team and produce as a team. That’s the only formula for the 27 WS Championship. I believe that the reason they are losing is that they are all playing poor baseball “simple as that”. Not being able to pound young starters and starters who are having a bad season is what is keeping us @ 5 games behind BOS and pretty close to Jays and Rays. The inability to produce in clutch is fundamental in successful franchises and right now the Yankees are lacking of that. I have faith that they will turn this madness around and make it to October but I would like to see Girardi grow some balls and have his voice heard in the field rather than protesting games (that to me sounded a lot like frustration) I said lets go back and play some good professional baseball and stop making excuses, let go Yankees.

Note: Joe, not guts no glory.
