Jeter held out of Yankees’ lineup again

Derek Jeter was not in the Yankees’ lineup for the second game in a row on Thursday as the shortstop continues to nurse a stiff left ankle.

Jeter left Tuesday’s game after seven innings and had an MRI examination on the ankle performed Wednesday, not appearing in New York’s 3-2 loss to the Nationals.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that he would not use Jeter on Thursday, as the club waited out a lengthy rain delay in the final game of their three-game set with Washington.

“He’s still a little sore, and I’m not real comfortable running him out there in the wet conditions,” Girardi said.

Jeter tried to talk Girardi into playing him on Wednesday and received treatment during the game, while Ramiro Pena started at shortstop. Jeter is batting .306 with nine homers and 30 RBIs in 61 games this season.

Bryan – any word on when the game might be starting (if at all)? It’s been about 2 hours since the last update on the site.
