Jeter leaves with stiff left ankle

Jeter.jpgDerek Jeter left Tuesday’s game against the Nationals after seven innings with left ankle stiffness, the Yankees announced.

Jeter appeared to favor his ankle while running out a sixth-inning groundout against Washington right-hander Shairon Martis. He played the top of the seventh inning before departing, finishing the evening 0-for-3 with a walk.

UPDATE 10:56 p.m.: Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Jeter believes he hurt the ankle on Gary Sheffield’s slide into second base on a fourth-inning double play back on Sunday.

“He was just not running real well, and when we took the lead, it was time to take him out,” Girardi said.

Jeter had no tests performed here and left without speaking to reporters. He is listed as day-to-day but Girardi did not seem optimistic that Jeter would play Wednesday.

“We’ll see how he feels tomorrow,” Girardi said. “I hope he wakes up and it’s all gone. My sense is that won’t be the case.”

perhaps we’ll see the Wang of old and indeed have that line by otooleotoad

I fancy Wang to limit the Nationals pretty well but I can’t see him reaching those 7 innings…5/6 maybe…

Wang’s line tonight: 7 innings, 2 earned, 6 hits, 3 walks, 4 k’s, Yankees win 9-2

You know what NoDig – that comment is not even close to being funny. That’s even low for a Yankees fan.

I thought it was funny. If you don’t like it, stay on your chowder head page.

Is Washington this GOOD –OR–Are the Yankees THAT BAD?!?!?!?!?!?!?

The Yankees are that bad. It’s pretty pathetic when you can’t beat up the Nats. Does Cano only smack around pitchers that I’ve never heard of? On Angel Berroa, hey Girardi you dunce, this guy is getting rusty on your bench. If someone goes down, you might as well put me in there. Maybe you keep him around because you like his conversational skills.

Jeter wouldn’t have made that play Pena did. Jeter should’ve been taken out after he went 0-fer 3.
