Last chance for Wang?
The Yankees are going to give Chien-Ming Wang one more go at it, sending him out on Wednesday to face the Nationals in New York. Joe Girardi said he had to sleep on the decision but apparently saw enough positive signs in last night’s outing.
After a video review and a chat with Jorge Posada, they think he might be close enough to be effective. But his chances are not unlimited, and if Washington hits Wang around, that could be it for the foreseeable future.
“As I told him, it’s important that he has a real good start,” Girardi said. “He needs to show us that he’s back and that he’s fully back. At some point, production is important. We told him that it’s a very important start.”
Meanwhile, Brian Bruney threw 25 pitches in live batting practice today to Angel Berroa and Ramiro Pena and – though he thinks he’s ready to be activated now – will pitch in a rehab game on Thursday for Double-A Trenton.
More later as we wait to get underway at Fenway Park, with CC Sabathia and Brad Penny scheduled to go…
