Gardner to reunite with biggest fan

Here’s a nice story: Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner is set to reunite with his biggest fan on Friday in New York, meeting with Alyssa, a heart transplant recipient at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital.

Gardner first met Alyssa, 18, on May 15, during an event at the hospital organized by Project Sunshine. Alyssa had been waiting 107 days for her transplan and gave Gardner a bracelet, telling him that if he held onto it, he would hit a home run.

Hours later, Gardner hit the first inside-the-park home run at the new Yankee Stadium, and the next morning Alyssa received a successful, life-saving heart transplant.

Very nice! A good deed by Gardner. Gardner is not ready as a prime time player, he can’t carry Melky’s spikes. Why is the Yankees management pushing him into a major role in center field. Last year they sent Melky down, this year they gave Gardner the center field job over Melky although, Melky once again proved he was a better player that Gardner, when Gardner failed to produce in the regular season, Melky was installed in centerfield. Now we have to watch Melky being shifted all through the outfield to accomodate Gardner. No matter how much Michael Kay etc. rave about Gardner. He should be in Trenton.

Could we bring back Mel Stottlemyre now that George is pretty much out of the picture? Or someone like Gil Patterson? Or someone else? Anyone else, please?

Wow, that is a great story.
It makes me happy to see that baseball
players will take time out of their schedule
for a fan. :) Thanks for posting. http://tribechick.mlblogs.com/

I just don’t think it’s fair how bi-polar you all are with your criticism. When the Yanks were on a role, there were no complaints about Girardi. Take a position and stick to it.
