FROM THE CLUBHOUSE

If you can believe this, CC Sabathia prepared for tonight’s start by watching Baby Mama. Kind of makes playing RBI Baseball against Brian Bruney look like heavy-duty studying. … Brian Bruney was hoping the Yankees would just activate him, trot him out to the mound and forget about all that messy rehab stuff. Sorry, Brian. Bruney will pitch on Saturday at Double-A Trenton. … Tony Pena had a scuff under his right eye from batting practice yesterday, when someone hit a liner off the L screen that clipped Pena while he was tossing. There were oohs and ahhs from the crowd but Pena shrugged it off and kept throwing. “I was a catcher,” he said. “You keep going. It’s a mentality.” … Sounds like A.J. Burnett’s appeal could be heard on June 16 in New York.

FROM THE GAME NOTES

Tonight the Yankees play the final game of a three-game series at Boston after a 6-5 loss on Wednesday and a 7-0 loss in the series opener on Tuesday…marked the first time the Yankees had lost consecutive games since the return of Alex Rodriguez on 5/8…the Yankees trail the Red Sox by 1.0 game for first place in the AL East…still own the fourth-best record in the Majors (Los Angeles-NL, 40-21; Philadelphia, 34-23; Boston 34-24)…the Yankees have won 19 of their last 27 games, including a season-high nine-game winning streak (5/13-21), which started the stretch…are nine games over .500, two games shy of their season high-water mark…are 13-6 in series finales in 2009…have won 11 of their last 17 road games since 4/28 at Detroit…went 4-2 on their just-completed, rain-shortened six-game homestand vs. Texas (2-1) and Tampa Bay (2-1)…on Friday the Yankees return home for a six-game Interleague homestand with three games vs. the Mets (Friday-Sunday) and three vs. Washington (6/16-18).

At the Yankees’ minor league complex in Tampa today, OF Xavier Nady took batting practice on the field and had continued his throwing program…is scheduled to return to New York on Friday to workout with the club…LHP Damaso Marte had an off day from throwing.

CC Sabathia tossed at least 7.0 innings in each of his last six starts and eight times overall in 2009…is the first Yankee to record six consecutive starts of 7.0-or-more innings since David Wells did so in six straight starts in September 2003.

Well your are right about ONE thing, This team Can’t hit their way out of a FRACKEN paper bag….
NOT ONE FRIGGIN OVERRATED, OVERPAID, UNDERACHEIVING player on this Friggin team is hitting OVER 300…NOT FRIGGIN ONE…
Yea they won 4 series in a ROW WOOPIE!!! Hurray!!
What a Friggin team…..
But can’t win against the team that they are going to face in the PLAYOFFS, Who the hell cares about the TEAMS TEY ARE SUPPOSEWD TO BEAT UP, when it comes to teams FOR A MUST WIN they fold like a bunch of CHEAP pair of Hanes…
This team will NEVER win until 2 things are accomplished…1. FIRE GIRARDI and 2. Bring in some Bullpen help.
And AGAIN your are right ITS DONE!!! YUO THIS TEAM IS DONE!!!
Bruney is NOT going to be the SAVIOR after his injury this team needs a Pen Reliever like Street……

And who the HELL mentioned Joe Torre’s Dodgers?!?!

Like

And please, let’s not bring up, Joe Torre’s Dodgers, who are playing in THE WEAKEST DIVISION IN BASEBALL, while the AL East happens to be the most challenging division in MLB. Do you know the kind of damage the Jays and the O’s would cause in the NL? Hell, last year, the 4th place Jays had a better record than the division-winning Dodgers did. So let’s get some perspective, people.

I’m not a Girardi defender, but you can’t blame him for an offense that batted for the interstate during the series w/the Sux. Thursday night they stranded 2 runners IN EVERY SINGLE INNING except the 7th and 9th. If they’d had CC’s back they would’ve scored ample runs on a pitcher with an over 5.00 ERA that the Sux are ready to deal. The Yankees scored 8 runs in 3 games. INEXCUSABLE. Not with this lineup! A team whose 9th batter–Melky–is a .300 hitter! They have let the Sux get into their heads and the biggest damage is the psychological one. After all, they’re just 2 games out of first. This is the best Yankee team in half a decade and s much better than they showed themselves to be at Fenway this week. But you kn ow what? It’s done. It’s in the books. Time to put it in the past and win some series. Remember, before this fiasco they won 4 series in a row. Tomorrow is another day.

Ever noticed fans how many years this blog has discussed middle relief and THE IDIOT Crashman can’t figure out how to get that solved. Perhaps Hank and Hal NEED to access Crashman and his decisions as to why this team continues to spend $$$$ and get NOTHING in return.

Coke has a 9.00 era with RISP. He’s NOT the one to bring in, although he’s been pitching well of late. Aceves had a 4.26 era with RISP, so he was the better choice. CC pitched a great game but he hasn’t gone 120+ pitches since back in April. But, given the bullpen, I guess I would have left him in also. But, we’re over 1/3 of the way through the season and our biggest rival for the division has totally owned us so far. I’m not sure what changes need to be made, but something needs to happen. The bullpen has been a problem all year and I don’t know if Bruney returning will be the magic bullet. Probably we wait until after the All Star break and pick up some help from teams unloading. We DON’T get rid of Cano for a quickfix, because who will upgrade that postition? But you’re right Jearl, panicking isn’t the answer. I don’t care for Girardi and he wasn’t my first choice (but I didn’t get asked), but I just feel he’s learning on the job. That’s okay, but not if your job is manager of the Yankees.

Yup I bet all the Coolaid Drinking Hard core gotta believe Yankee fans will be happy and go see, see I was right the Yankees are a Good Team when they beat up on teams like Washington and Florida, But they HAVE ALOT TO PROVE before I drink any of that Friggin Coolaid……….
So Cheers and be happy when they beat up on sub-par teams make yourself believe and then tell yourself that you are AGAIN ready for Boston only to be saying the same thing again hopefully in the playoffs against Boston, But if we lose..
Then maybe some of you will agree with me …

FIRE GIRARDI!!!!!!
Maybe then??????

sper33,
That’s a fair question to ask. I guess my answer would have to do with the following:
1.) The Yankees, as we’ve all discussed, do not have that shut-down eighth inning guy and going to the bullpen is usually a crapshoot.
2.) Sabathia showed no signs of being tired in the 7th inning.
3.) Nick Green was leading off and Drew (a lefty) was hitting third. Sabathia, even when tired, should be able to get a career .246 hitter out. Even if Pedroia gets on, he should be able to get Drew out as well. That makes two outs with a runner on first. MUCH easier than what ended happening. C.C. just lost it after pitching a nice ballgame.

So now that the Yankees are mentally BEAT from this Friggin series with their DADDY Boston I wonder how long of a losing streak they will NOW GO ON?!?!?!?!?

All i want to know is, why does Girardi send CC out in the 8th? The weather was not great at all and he had already thrown 106 pitches. Why try to push him for another inning? Granted CC won’t say he wants to come out, but Girardi should’ve pulled the plug on his SUPERB outing before the 8th.

Jearl24,
That’s a good point about Torre. This is one of the fastest starts the Yanks have gotten out to in a while. Look, the Sox are really good and have the Yankees number. However, even with losing 8 games to them this year, the Yankees are 2 games out of first place. I’ll take that position for now especially since this team has shown a lot more than past teams (leading the majors in come from behind wins for instance). Overall they’ve looked a lot better in those “clutch” situations this year than they have in the recent past. Heck, Arod ONLY seems to be hitting in the clutch this year (we could of course use a few more hits in the first couple of innings, but that’ll come). They’re by no means the “late 90s” teams, but they’re a lot better than the 2007/8 teams.

I still believe in the yanks. always will. baseball is a complicated sport. you only win if all of your parts do their job. it’s not like basketball, where one guy can take over the game and win it. losing to boston is the pits, but firing everyone is not the answer. I think we need to bring up some of these younger guys from AAA ball like austin jackson because he has all of the tools and hits with runners in scoring position. the lack of clutch hitting is what killed this team in boston

Like

at this point in 2007 under Joe Torre, this team was a game under .500 and 9.5 games out of first place behind the red sux. Girardi has them 8 games above .500 and 2 games out of first place and his bullpen has been demolished by injuries and ineffectiveness for the majority of the season so far. I’d say he’s not doing that bad of a job. I’m pissed about them losing to boston too, but this can’t all be blamed on Girardi. Tell me one manager who’s bold enough to manage the yankees at this very moment that’s better than Girardi.

BUT I CAN KEEP GOING ON WITH THIS TEAM!!!

As far as “in game decisions” are concerned, I thought Girardi was fine in this series. I didn’t like the bunt with Melky late last night, but I’ll deal. However, where I criticize him is rearranging the rotation so Burnett and Wang would get starts. Burnett and Wang?! Neither pitcher gets out of the 3rd inning and the bullpen gets wasted. ACTUALLY, the Yankee bullpen matched the great Sos bullpen in this series and pitched WAY more innings, so I’ll give them credit there. I do however give Girardi blame for specifically setting up his rotation the way he did. I definitely don’t think Girardi needs to go because overall I still think he’s doing a good job with what he has. However, I won’t give him a pass on this one.

GIRARDI = FAILURE

man, there’s a whole lot of stupid “quick fix” ideas flying around on this blog. they would have had this friggin game if they had Bruney for the 8th inning. plain and simple. CC pitched a damn good game, Cervelli called a good game and Girardi made a mistake by bringing in Aceves in the 8th. he should have brought in Coke. but on the other hand, it’s easy for us to second guess the manager’s decision from from our couches at home. Here’s a wake up call, STOP ALL OF YOUR CRYING. there’s a whole lot of baseball left. this is a good team and they just have a few things to straighten out.

Tip of the hat to the Sox, they are clearly the better team this season. It’s also obvious that the new Steinbrenner is nothing like the Boss. After going 0 for 8 against Boston and losing first place there would have been a manager change. Oh George, we miss you!

I’m a huge Joba to the bullpen guy, but I have to admit that because of the troubles of Burnett and Wang, we kind of need him in the rotation. It’s really too bad because tonight was the perfect example of why we need him in the bullpen too. Can we clone him?
Now my biggest problem with the game tonight was once again the Red Sox beat the Yankees on those darn “little things.” How on earth can Swisher get picked off second in that situation (again?!)? Then in the top of the 8th, Rocco Baldelli makes a terrific run saving catch in the outfield. What do the Yankees do to answer? Well Brett Gardner makes one of the most embarrassing throws you’ll ever see on a ball that was not that deep. Look, the Yankees didn’t play terribly in those last two games, but in a way that’s MORE frustrating for me. Even when they play decently, they still get edged by the Sox. Well at least we won’t see them for several months. Hopefully by then we’ll be 10 games in front.

I definitly agree with Cano’s attitude and how it seems like he doesnt care, but you cant blame him for Girardi having his head up his ***!! If one was to go back and look at CC’s loses this season they would see that they have all come late in the game. This is the just another example of Girardi’s incompetance to pull the pitcher out when he needs to be. The lost tonight (number 8 to the F****** Sox) all rests on the shoulders off Girardi.
