Report on Joba Chamberlain: bruised right knee

The Yankees have announced that X-rays taken on Yankees starter Joba Chamberlain’s right knee were negative. Officially, he is listed with a bruised right knee.

Chamberlain left his start in the first inning on Thursday after being struck with a line drive. The right-hander started his evening against the Orioles with a strikeout of Brian Roberts before Adam Jones drilled a hard line drive back up the middle, striking him near the right knee.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi and trainer Gene Monahan attended to Chamberlain on the field and initially allowed him to stay in the game after several warmup pitches.

Chamberlain then allowed a single to Nick Markakis and another hit to Aubrey Huff before Girardi and Monahan returned to the field, removing Chamberlain. He was relieved by right-hander Alfredo Aceves, who threw 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Matt is correct, Don Mattingly or Willie Randolph Would not be an upgrade as a replacement for Joe. Yes, he has made many mistakes but he has to play with the hand dealt to him. I too would like to see a new or should I say an old face such as Pinella, But he is already taken..
Duncan, Why you give Andy a bye, If he can’t cut it he should retire. Everyone has to pull their weight, Seniority shouldn’t be considered. I do believe the bullpen will get better, I also wonder why we haven’t seen more of Tomko, It doesn’t make sense keeping him on the bench, Use him, he probably needs the action lest he loses his edge…..

the yanks are “Hot” now, but I still don’t like the bullpen being used so much. Joba, Hughes, and andy (an all time yankee, so he is excused) have to get into the 7th and 8th innings for us to see if they really have what it takes to win a championship. can they pitch after 4th of july( thats when baseball begins) in motown, beantown and tinseltown. there is a dogfight in the AL east and the central is coming. i love it when all the top teams are playing well. shout out to devil-rays you will play the role of spoiler. not ready for prime time.

If Joe Beimel becomes available closer to mid-season, I’d say that the Yankees should make a push to trade for him, and release Marte. Marte has really been nothing but inconsistent and bad since he came over to the Yankees last season. I have no clue what the Yankees’ front office was thinking after they declined his option only to re-sign him for more years and more money…

Girardi has made some bad decisions when chosing what reliver to pitch when and for how long…but the problem is the pitching itself…the Yanks made a mistake not picking up…Juan Cruz..!!!
if the Yanks have a bullpen problem come mid season they will need to make a trade…and hopefully there will be someone out there to acquire…so far it looks like the Yankees may be able to maintain if Aceves and Tomko can have a good season but it’s way to early to tell…and if Marte can come back and be what he has been in the past…that might be all they need…
Let’s hope so…

While it’s true that Willie Randolph didn’t meet expectations in Flushing, he has a classic Yankees approach to managing. He never got the full support of the Mets’ front office and had plenty of treasonous rats conspiring against him in the clubhouse.

Number nine was divine. Ten would be splend. Fans can get use to this winning. Go Yankees and get healed soon Joba.

that game was a lot closer than it should have been

Girardi–the genius–his moves make sense to no one but him.
How I’d love to see Don Mattingly or Willie Randolph as the Yanks skipper.

where the heck is Bruney??? i figured he would’ve started the 8th.. i saw his name in the list of available pitchers today

What is Tomko doing–sitting on his hands in the bullpen? Why did they bring him up?
Why isn’t Girardi using him?

Aceves IS an Ace!

As I’ve said before, if the Yanks win it will be despite Girardi’s dumb moves, not because this guy puts his team in the best position to win–he doesn’t!

Whew!

Cano is sizzlin’!

another HR given up by Albaladejo :(
if he can keep the Orioles from scoring any more then i think Bruney can pitch in the 8th with Mo in the 9th.. unless the yankees have another big run inning like in the last two games

hopefully Joba’s okay and that his knee will be fine

Alfredo Aceves did a great job – he held the Orioles scoreless and did so efficiently.. it’s nice to know that not only is Wang close to coming back to the rotation (i think) but that Aceves is there as well as a solid pitcher if need be
